Air Proprietary 2 Hardware Engineering Manager - Flight Simulation Labs

Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) is seeking an Air Proprietary 2 Hardware Engineering Manager (Level L) to join the Flight Simulation Labs Hardware Team in Berkeley, MO.

This position will focus on supporting the Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) business organization. The Flight Simulation | Labs organization provides a comprehensive simulation and laboratory solution for the design, development, integration and deployment of Boeing defense products.

The Air Proprietary 2 Hardware Engineering Manager will be responsible for technical execution of the design, development, testing, and delivery of complex lab hardware benches that house avionics within Software/System integration facilities to support program integration/testing.

The position will manage an engineering team performing multiple engineering tasks including requirements development, hardware development, acceptance verification testing, system analysis, and simulation/SIL deployment and testing. The engineering leader will be responsible for developing and executing project plans, acquiring resources for project development, developing and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders, providing technical oversight on team activities, leading process improvements, and employee development.

Position Responsibilities

  • Manages employees performing engineering and technical activities in the areas of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Systems Engineering
  • Ensures program schedules align with hardware assembly plan and maintains metrics
  • Develops and executes project and process plans, implements policies and procedures and sets operational goals
  • Acquires resources for projects and processes, provides technical management of suppliers and leads process improvements
  • Develops and maintains relationships and partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, partners and direct reports
  • Participates in program operating rhythm to include recurring program performance and management reviews, risk management, and EVMS activities
  • Provides oversight and approval of technical approaches, products and processes
  • Participates in lab compliance activities including cyber security, physical security, safety management, and configuration management
  • Manages, develops and motivates employees

Travel may be required for up to 10% of the time; domestically depending on business needs.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim U.S. Secret Clearance Pre-Start and final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

This position requires ability to obtain Special Program Access, for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship only.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, or Chemistry
  • 3+ years of experience leading an Engineering project or Engineering team
  • Demonstrated ability to provide a high level of customer satisfaction
  • Strong communication skills - written and verbal

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
  • More than 3 years of experience leading or managing projects involving cross-functional or cross-business unit teams
  • Avionics Hardware and Software development, integration, and testing experience
  • More than 3 years of experience managing projects using Earned Value Management System (EVMS)
  • Experience working directly with Department of War
  • Background in Mission Systems engineering development activities
  • Simulation or System Integration Labs experience
  • Experience leading multiple parallel development schedules
  • Active U.S. Security Clearance
