Position Summary

The Nursing Instructor is responsible for providing high-quality nursing instruction and clinical education to LPN/PN and RN students. Depending on program and campus needs, instructors may provide classroom, laboratory, simulation, and/or clinical instruction.

The instructor creates a supportive learning environment, evaluates student performance and competency, and guides students in developing the knowledge, skills, and professional behaviors necessary for success in nursing.

The ideal candidate is an experienced Registered Nurse with a passion for education, strong clinical knowledge, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to student achievement.

Essential Functions
  • Provide classroom, laboratory, simulation, and/or clinical instruction to LPN/PN and RN nursing students, as assigned.
  • Provide clinical instruction at long-term care, sub-acute, and acute clinical sites.
  • Create a positive and supportive learning environment that fosters students' academic growth and professional development.
  • Deliver effective instruction appropriate to the educational level and needs of LPN/PN and RN students.
  • Supervise students in the clinical environment and promote safe, professional nursing practice.
  • Evaluate student performance and clinical competence based on program philosophy, objectives, policies, and established standards.
  • Implement appropriate evaluation methods to measure student learning, progress, and competency.
  • Prepare accurate and timely student progress reports and grade reports.
  • Maintain accurate and timely attendance records.
  • Provide students with appropriate guidance, feedback, and support to promote successful learning outcomes.
  • Maintain current knowledge and expertise within the nursing specialty and clinical practice environment.
  • Attend faculty meetings, training sessions, and other required academic or campus meetings.
  • Maintain professional qualifications through continuing education, in-service training, and academic coursework as appropriate.
  • Collaborate effectively with faculty, administration, clinical partners, and other members of the academic community.
  • Maintain professional standards and contribute to a positive learning environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director, Program Dean, or Campus Administration.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or higher nursing degree required.
  • Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the applicable state required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of recent professional Registered Nurse experience.
  • Clinical experience relevant to the nursing courses and clinical experiences being taught.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in a nursing specialty that contributes to student learning.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior nursing education or teaching experience preferred, but not required.
  • Experience teaching LPN/PN and/or RN students in a classroom, laboratory, simulation, or clinical setting preferred.
  • Experience precepting, mentoring, or orienting nurses or nursing students.
  • Experience with clinical evaluation and competency-based education.
  • Experience using learning management systems and other educational technology.
