Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Senior Principal Engineer Systems Modeling Simulation to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals internal to our Product Support organization. This position will be located onsite in Melbourne, Florida.
The Sr. Principal Engineer Systems Modeling Simulation role requires the ability to take ownership of challenging problems, drive them to a solution, and provide leadership for implementing solutions in a team environment. Candidates must be adaptable, innovative, and comfortable with ambiguity, supporting advanced programs with evolving requirements. The ideal candidate will understand and apply traditional systems engineering concepts in an agile, accelerated environment, be comfortable with multitasking and verbal presentations, and document assumptions as needed.
Candidate must develop new and/or integrate into existing system simulation frameworks, performance models and algorithms, threat models and command and control models. Simulates real-time operations and develops software that simulates behavior of systems. Develops integrates and uses advanced graphical user interfaces and visualization tools. Models operational environments, performs trade studies via computer simulation and recommends alternative architectures. Performs operational analysis and mission effectiveness analysis.
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
  • Conduct research, develop models, and perform analysis of a wide variety of system types to drive the development of requirements, refine existing requirements, and influence the pursuit of future technologies and capabilities.
  • Work within the Product Support organization on forward looking (projection based) metrics to status the health and capabilities of weapon systems.
  • The successful candidate will possess strong communication and technical writing skills, as well as the ability to handle multiple technical tasks and present to leadership.
  • Skills in the areas of data transformation, discrete event simulation, Monte Carlo simulations, mathematical optimization, regression analyses, trend & sensitivity analysis, data sampling, and computing are essential.

Basic Qualifications
  • 8 Years with Bachelors in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM); 6 Years with Masters; 4 Years with PhD.
  • Familiarity with Logistics Composite Model (L-COM)
  • Familiarity with Model for Aircraft Availability Forecasting
  • Strong communication and writing skills
  • Excellent computer skills combined with a mastery of Microsoft Office with the ability to create MS power point presentations delineating any modeling / simulation tasking
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks
  • Proficiency with Tableau, R, Python, VBA, Power Query, Microsoft Access, Arena, or other programming language for data analytics.
  • Must have an active U.S. Government Secret clearance that is in-scope (granted or renewed in the last 6 years) and eligibility for Top Secret

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with or exposure to digital design initiatives and solutions to include Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and Model Based Sustainment (MBS)
  • Previous internship/co-op or other work experience, leadership & teamwork capabilities, interpersonal communication skills, and activities (professional/community/extracurricular).
  • Experience using CAMEO Enterprise Architecture
  • Experience with Capturing
  • Experience in completing Basis of Estimates (BOE).
  • Prior experience with Capture Development / Capture Teams
  • Proficient with Logistics Composite Model (L-COM)
  • Familiarity with Model for Aircraft Availability Forecasting
  • Min 3 years of technical experience in Logistics Engineering (Reliability / Maintainability / Sustainability)
  • Candidate must have an understanding of the either or both S-Series Standards/Mil-STD 1388 (defunct)
  • Significant experience in military, government, commercial aerospace industry (e.g. aviation/equipment maintenance, aircraft operations, or commercial industrial technology companies)
  • Knowledge of Military Specifications, Contract Data Requirements Lists (CDRLs), Data Item Descriptions (DIDs) and other related technical and contractual documents
  • Experience in completing detailed risk analysis.
  • Experience in completing Basis of Estimates (BOE).
  • Prior experience with Capture Development / Capture Teams

Primary Level Salary Range: $122,800.00 - $184,200.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
