Job Summary
This mid-level position is responsible for the design, integration, testing, troubleshooting, and field support of electrical and electronic systems for Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs), Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs), and related subsea equipment. The role requires hands-on technical work from concept through component level, strong troubleshooting skills, and the ability to support both shop and offshore operations. Work is performed under general supervision as part of a multidisciplinary subsea robotics team supporting research and operational missions.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Design and develop electrical systems and circuits for subsea robotics equipment, including power distribution, control systems, sensors, and communications, from concept through component level.
  2. Create and maintain accurate electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, bills of materials, and technical documentation using industry-standard design tools.
  3. Troubleshoot and repair complex electrical and electronic issues on ROV/AUV systems, including fiber optic systems, telemetry, high-voltage AC/DC distribution, and underwater communication links, both in the shop and during offshore operations.
  4. Support system integration, testing, and upgrades in collaboration with mechanical, software, and operations personnel. Assist with mobilization, demobilization, and offshore field support as required.
  5. Maintain detailed records of system configurations, repairs, modifications, and configuration control.
  6. Assist with development of technical procedures, work instructions, and safety protocols related to electrical systems.
  7. Provide technical input and documentation support for proposals, project planning, and customer deliverables as needed.
  8. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum QualificationsBachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics, or a closely related field. Three (3) years of relevant experience in electrical system design, integration, and troubleshooting. Two (2) years of experience using electrical design tools (AutoCAD Electrical, Altium Designer, SolidWorks Electrical, or similar). US Citizen with a valid driver's license required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Solid working knowledge of electrical engineering principles, circuit design, and component-level troubleshooting
  • Ability to read, interpret, and create electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail in operational and field environments
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team (mechanical, software, operations)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Willingness to learn and adapt quickly in a hands-on, mission-driven environment
  • Familiarity with ROV/AUV systems or harsh-environment electronics is highly desirable
  • Ability and willingness to travel and support extended offshore or remote field deployments as needed

Preferred QualificationsFour to five (4-5) years of relevant electrical engineering experience. One to two (1-2) years of hands-on ROV, AUV, or subsea vehicle electrical systems experience. Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification, or eligibility to obtain EIT certification shortly after hire.
