As a Senior Traffic Design Engineer, P.E., you will bring deep technical expertise and leadership to support mid to large scale transportation projects, with a strong focus on Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) and/or Signing and Pavement Marking design and program management.
This role serves as a technical lead and mentor, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams and public agencies to deliver high quality traffic control and signing and striping plans that meet applicable standards and agency requirements.

What are the core responsibilities for the role?
  • Lead the development of Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) plans for large and complex transportation projects, including phased construction, detours, and temporary traffic control
  • Perform analysis, design, and plan sheet preparation for signing, striping, and MOT on interstates, freeways, highways, interchanges, and intersections
  • Serve as technical lead on mid to large scale traffic design tasks, ensuring quality control and compliance with MUTCD, AASHTO, and applicable DOT standards
  • Prepare studies, technical reports, construction plans, specifications, and estimates from project kickoff through delivery
  • Coordinate and lead meetings with clients, public agencies, and project stakeholders
  • Work closely with project managers, engineers, technicians, and support staff to deliver successful transportation projects
  • Manage assignments, workloads, and training or mentoring of traffic design staff
  • Coordinate with other managers and discipline leads to share resources and align project efforts
  • Support business development, client relationships, and long-term program delivery when applicable

Qualifications, Skills, and Competencies:
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited college or university
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license required
  • 10+ years of experience in traffic engineering analysis and design
  • Strong background in MOT and or signing and pavement marking design
  • Experience leading technical teams and mentoring engineers
  • Knowledge of Bentley ProjectWise, MicroStation, InRoads, OpenRoads, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and other applicable transportation software
  • Hands on experience with Synchro, SimTraffic, Vistro, Vissim, or Aimsun preferred
  • Experience with UDOT or other DOT standards, procedures, and plan preparation
  • Familiarity with local, regional, state, and federal design criteria
  • Established relationships with transportation agencies preferred
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proven ability to meet project deadlines and budgets
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and client focused mindset
  • Desire to grow professionally and help build and strengthen the traffic design team
