Job description

Mid-City Lumber, Ltd. is a longstanding Mid-Missouri business that has served local contractors and homeowners since 1969. With convenient locations in Columbia, Jefferson City, Boonville, Sedalia, and Linn Creek, we pride ourselves on being a trusted resource for quality building materials and expert guidance. Our team is built on a "people first" philosophy, offering a casual, family-oriented work environment where helping our customers get the job done right is our top priority. We are currently looking for dedicated individuals to join our crew and help us continue our mission of providing fast, reliable service to the communities we call home.

  • Team Atmosphere: Known for a supportive, friendly culture with a "roll with the punches" attitude to meet customer needs.
  • Multiple Locations: Opportunities across mid-Missouri, including a specialized Design Center in Osage Beach.
  • Professional Growth: A place where "Our People - Your Resource" isn't just a slogan, but a commitment to expertise and training.

A Yard/Delivery Driver in a lumber yard is a hybrid responsible for both the physical organization of the yard and the safe transportation of materials to customer job sites. This position ensures that the correct products are loaded, secured, and delivered on time, while also supporting daily yard operations when not on the road.
Responsibilities

  • Load Securement & Accuracy: Verify that every item and quantity on the delivery ticket matches the physical load. Secure materials using straps, tarps, or chains to prevent shifting or damage during transit in compliance with DOT regulations.
  • Vehicle Maintenance: Conduct daily pre- and post-trip inspections (checking tires, fluids, and lights) and report any mechanical issues to supervisors immediately.
  • Yard Operations Support: Assist with pulling orders, loading customer vehicles, and unloading incoming vendor shipments using forklifts or pallet jacks.
  • Facility Upkeep: Maintain a clean, organized, and safe yard by restacking materials, removing debris, and assisting with regular inventory cycle counts.

Qualifications
  • Licensing: A valid driver's license is mandatory. Depending on the truck size, a Class A or B CDL may be required. Some employers may also require a DOT Medical Health Card.
  • Material Handling: Proficiency in operating heavy equipment, specifically forklifts, to move oversized lumber units.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to lift and carry heavy materials (frequently 75-100 lbs) and work outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, rain, or snow.
  • Product Knowledge: Basic familiarity with lumber species, grades, and building products to ensure order accuracy during loading.
