A Microsoft Access Database job typically involves designing, developing, and managing databases using Microsoft Access. Professionals in this role create tables, queries, forms, and reports to organize and analyze data efficiently. They may also automate tasks with VBA (Visual Basic for Applications) and integrate Access with other applications. These roles are common in small to medium-sized businesses that need database solutions without the complexity of larger systems like SQL Server.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Microsoft Access database position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Microsoft Access Database professional, you need strong skills in database design, SQL, and data management, usually supported by formal training or a background in information technology. Proficiency in Microsoft Access, VBA (Visual Basic for Applications), and possibly certifications like Microsoft Office Specialist are important technical assets. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication with stakeholders are essential soft skills. These capabilities help ensure efficient database solutions, accurate data handling, and successful collaboration with users and IT teams.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working with Microsoft Access databases?

Professionals working with Microsoft Access databases often encounter challenges such as ensuring data integrity, managing multi-user access, and scaling databases to meet growing organizational needs. They may also need to resolve compatibility issues with other database systems or troubleshoot performance bottlenecks as data volume increases. Staying current with updates and coordinating with end users to understand evolving requirements are key aspects of the role. Job description

Role: Senior Full Stack Developer (.NET Core/Angular) with AI Assisted Coding
Duration: 3 months contract (possible 3-month extension based on client feedback)
Location: Oakland, CA (3 days/week)

Need Locals only. Client is not sponsoring Visa at this time

Overview: The client has converted legacy Microsoft Access database applications into modern web applications using an AI code generation platform (AppGen). Your job is not to write code from scratch. Instead, you will review, debug, and correct the generated .NET Core and Angular code using AI tools like GitHub Copilot and Claude. Think of it as being the senior developer guiding an AI assistant: you define the problem, set the guardrails, ask the right questions, and validate the output. This process will be repeated across multiple Access databases.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Review and sanity check AI generated .NET Core and Angular code for functionality and correctness
  • Use Copilot and Claude to fix issues in the generated code rather than manually rewriting it
  • Understand the source Access database structure, normalization, and business logic
  • Validate and debug data mapping between Access and SQL Server
  • Provide clear, well scoped prompts and guidance to AI tools for accurate results

Must Have Skills:
  • Strong .NET Core and Angular development background
  • Hands on experience using AI coding tools (GitHub Copilot, Claude, or similar) in real projects, including prompting, setting rules, and reviewing AI output
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Access database structure and SQL Server
  • Strong debugging and code review skills
  • Ability to work independently onsite 3 days a week
