Job description

Role Overview
The Analytical Scientist is a key member of the Research and Development team. This individual will interact with all members of the R&D team as well as stakeholders in the manufacturing and feedstock procurement team. This individual will be responsible for developing methodology and performing advanced product quality characterization techniques primarily with Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS). Candidates with prior GC/MS experience will receive priority.
What You'll Be Doing
  • Perform analytical testing on recycled and purified plastic to support R&D projects
  • Lead development of new analytical techniques as needed focusing on GC, GC/MS, XRF, and ICP-MS
  • Assisting with research efforts and utilizing Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), and Solvent-Elution Fraction
  • Manage long-term research projects and effectively organize data.
  • Effectively organize and present data to key stakeholders
  • Keep an accurate record of tests performed and samples analyzed.
  • Proactively maintain lab processes and equipment to ensure reliability and consistency.
  • Troubleshoot lab equipment as required to maintain operation.
  • Follow all PCT safety processes to create a world-class EHSQ environment.

Basic Qualifications (Required)
  • B.S. degree in Polymer Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Material Science.
  • Must have the highest standards of integrity, accuracy, and attention to detail.
  • Previous experience with gas chromatography (GC) and mass spectrometry (MS)
  • Experience developing experimental test methods, validating results, and generating standard operating procedures
  • Individual must be self-motivated, a team player, and task orientated.
  • Must be proficient in basic computer applications such as email, Microsoft Office, and web-based programs.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers and employees.
  • Ability to comprehend and accurately interpret safety and training materials.
  • Ability to work independently without direct supervision.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Polymer Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Material Science.
  • Previous experience in a research lab.
  • Previous experience with DSC, FTIR, TGA, SEM, Rheology, Instron, Injection molding.
  • Knowledge of industry certifications beneficial (ISO 9001).
