    Bachelor's Degree in medical technology or related field.
  • Experience

    (MLS) MEDICAL LAB SCIENTIST or by an approved accrediting agency
JOB DUTIES
  • Job knowledge. Accurately performs a variety of microbiological procedures for the cultivation, isolation and identification of microorganisms in blood, respiratory sources, skin scrapings, exudates, body fluids and surgical specimens, Conducts routine and specialized microbiological procedures including bacteriology, virology, fungal, mycobacteriology and parasitology assays. Conducts rapid molecular and serological testing. Recognizes deviation from expected results; evaluates results for discrepancies and feasibility, utilizing instrument and LIS flags, analyzes and corrects problems according to procedure. Recognizes critical results and correctly documents notification of critical results to appropriate personnel. Exercises independent judgement within scope of testing and will perform high-level duties of significant scope and complexity under supervisor's guidance.
  • Quality Orientation. Performs all quality control procedures to ensure validity of test results. Evaluates, documents, and troubleshoots quality control according to lab protocols. Performs statistical analysis on quality control and quality assurance monitors. Takes appropriate corrective action when errors are detected or specimen rejection / recollection is required. Ensures patient specimen stability and proper sample processing. Inventory check of reagents as required. Treat all proficiency test samples according to CAP guidelines and laboratory expectations
  • Instrumentation. Responsible as a primary source of information for maintaining current instrumentation in Microbiology. Troubleshoots instrumentation and equipment problems during the shift to ensure uninterrupted testing. Responsible for coordination of training in the methods and techniques of the appropriate specialty area with guidance of the manager/supervisor.
  • Productivity Ensures smooth workflow in all areas of the laboratory. Exhibits efficient use of time and resources. Meets expectations for TAT and pending list review. Coordinates daily tasks to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency of team members during the assigned shift
  • Attendance Reports for work on the assigned days at the assigned times.
  • Performs special projects such as evaluation of new reagents, procedures, tests, or other duties as assigned. Work collaboratively with supervisor to maintain adequate inventory and supplies for the department's operation.
  • Achieves a minimum of 10 continuing education hours annually. Continuously seeks knowledge in and outside of functional area.
  • Actively participates in Performance Improvement Activities. Serves on committees and task forces. Orientates and instructs students and laboratory personnel in established clinical laboratory techniques, as required.
  • Ensures compliance with rules and regulations of regulatory accreditation agencies such as TJC, CAP, and OSHA,
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
