Job description

Overview

Integration Innovation, Inc. (i3) is seeking a motivated, highly detail-oriented Mechanical Integrator to perform precision assembly of delicate items containing hazardous or explosive materials. This role would also assist engineering staff with evaluating prototypes, preparing for test events, and maintaining equipment in a high-impact research and development environment. The ideal candidate blends exceptional manual dexterity and spatial reasoning with solid communication and teamwork skills as well as a strong background in general fabrication processes, additive manufacturing, and safety discipline. This position will be located in Huntsville, AL. 

Responsibilities
  • Performs precision assembly and integration of small, complex, and fragile mechanical sub-systems, working from engineering drawings, work instructions, and standard operating procedures.
  • Identifies mechanical and electromechanical function and fit issues, working closely with teammates to troubleshoot and resolve discrepancies.
  • Operates and maintains 3D printers as well as hand and/or power tools to produce rapid prototypes, custom assembly jigs, and alignment fixtures.
  • Maintains equipment, tools, and test hardware.
Qualifications
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in precision mechanical assembly, electromechanical integration, micro-assembly, or a related technical field. 
  • Exceptional manual dexterity, skill with hand tools, hand-eye coordination, and demonstrated ability to work with small, delicate components. 
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, and step-by-step build instructions. 
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with a proven track record of working on and troubleshooting mechanical systems. 
  • Must possess High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
  • Must be able to lift and move 35 lbs.
  • Must be able to work around office, workshop, and outdoor environments including moving, sitting, traversing ladders/stairs/uneven terrain, see fine detail, and hear verbal instructions
  • Must be willing to work directly with hazardous materials and meticulously comply with associated safety and security protocols.

Desired Qualifications 

  • Existing final SECRET or higher security clearance.
  • Experience working in ESD-sensitive and HAZMAT environments.
  • Eligible for a Commercial Driver's License and HAZMAT endorsement.
  •  Hands-on experience operating, maintaining, modifying, and troubleshooting FDM (filament) and SLA/DLP (resin) printers. 
  • Working knowledge of print optimization including layer heights, infill patterns, print orientation, support design, and post-processing (support removal, sanding, curing). 
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical fabrication processes such as machining, welding, soldering, and system integration.
  • Understanding of fastener selection, thread locking, torque limits, press fits, micro-clearances, and structural bonding adhesives (e.g., epoxy, cyanoacrylate, UV-cure). 
  • Ability to recognize and troubleshoot fitment issues such as binding, misalignments, dynamic interference, or tolerance stack-up issues during dry-fits and final assembly. 
  • High tolerance for repetitive, fine detail work requiring intense focus, steady hands, and surgical cleanliness.
