Job Title: Medical Secretary
Job Summary
Provides secretarial support utilizing specific knowledge of medical terminology and hospital, clinic, or laboratory procedures; Provides clerical duties for PACE staff as needed.
Essential Job Functions
โข Handles all telephone calls and greets visitors and participants; Takes message as needed and delivers to appropriate personnel
โข Schedules all participant diagnostic appointments and medical consultations
โข Request medical records; Ensures that all results from all laboratory, radiological and other tests and procedures are obtained and reported to the physician and clinical staff
โข Checks all medications received from Pharmacy on a daily basis to ensure that they match what was ordered; Prepares them with delivery tickets and distributes them to the appropriate driver
โข Maintains unit specific documentation as per department guidelines and regulatory standards
โข Maintains Electronic Medical Record
โข Acts as support for Patient Coordinator; Understands priorities of Coordinator position and perform scheduling and coordination duties when required Including authorizations; Provides authorization for treatment/procedures to hospitals and other providers; Enters information in the system and maintains an updated agenda
โข Responsible to update daily IDT agenda and record daily IDT minutes
โข Performs clerical and support functions for the department
โข Attends department meetings and in-services as needed
โข Order supplies for PACE on the Meditech system
โข Manages traffic flow in the clinic exhibiting an assertive professional behavior at all times
Job Requirements
Education:
โข High School Diploma or equivalent
Experience:
โข Minimum six months office clerical experience preferably in a healthcare setting
Licenses/Certifications:
โข Medical secretary certification preferred
Abilities Required
โข Knowledge of medical terminology
โข Strong organizational skills
โข Self-starter and self-motivated
โข Strong computer skills. Proficient in Microsoft outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point
โข Ability to work with geriatric patients
โข Demonstrates a caring attitude toward PACE participants, family members, employees, and other facility guests
โข Must be able to speak, read and write English
โข Bilingual Spanish/English preferred
