The Foundation

The Miami Foundation is a home base for generosity and impact focused on building a Greater Miami where everyone can thrive. Since 1967, it has invested over $772 million to strengthen our community in partnership with more than 1,000 fundholders and 50,000 donors. The Foundation tracks key quality‑of‑life issues, shapes Greater Miami’s vitality, and mobilizes donors and community leaders around data to leverage resources and shape a better city. It also develops a policy agenda and advocacy strategy on issues central to Miami’s resilience.

Position Overview

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) has executive responsibility for the Foundation’s accounting, financial management, budgeting, audit, tax, investment, and general operations. The CFO provides leadership, excellent service to internal and external constituents, and ensures efficiency and excellence. The CFO manages the relationship with investment managers, reconciles all investment funds, and serves on the Investment and Audit Committees. The CFO works closely with the President and CEO, Board of Trustees, and development team to support growth.

Specific Responsibilities
  • Financial Planning and Analysis: develop robust budgets, dynamic financial models, and performance analyses; align financial planning with the organization’s mission and long‑term goals.
  • Investment Oversight and Management: steward the investment portfolio, oversee the Outsourced Chief Investment Officer, interpret investment reports, and build the impact‑investing strategy.
  • Complex Financial Operations: manage thousands of transactions across more than 1,000 unique funds, implement systems and controls for accuracy, transparency, and efficiency.
  • Stakeholder Engagement and Communication: present to the board, negotiate with partners, and collaborate with internal teams to articulate financial information clearly.
  • Financial Literacy for Non‑Experts: translate complex financial concepts into accessible language, fostering transparency and informed decision‑making.
  • Leadership and Team Development: mentor staff, align the finance team with organizational strategy, and promote cross‑functional collaboration.
  • Culture Building and Values: foster a workplace culture that is joyful, inclusive, and aligned with the Foundation’s commitment to equity and transparency.
  • Compliance and Governance: ensure compliance with IRS regulations, grant requirements, governance standards, and Community Foundation National Standards.
  • Strategic and Entrepreneurial Thinking: identify opportunities for growth, innovation, and efficiency, and drive initiatives that enhance impact.
  • Executive Presence and Relationship Building: build relationships across all levels, inspire trust, and serve as a key ambassador for the Foundation’s financial vision.
