Job description

Duties Description Are you interested in starting or advancing your career with New York State? Capital District Psychiatric Center (CDPC) is recruiting for hourly Mental Health Therapy Aides to work at their outpatient residences.
As a Mental Health Therapy Aide at CDPC, you will provide direct care services and support to individuals diagnosed with mental illness.
Duties will include:
• Assisting individuals with personal care tasks such as hygiene, grooming, nutrition, and daily living.
• Coordinating and promoting social activities, including dances, picnics, shopping visits, cultural and athletic events, and after-school/weekend activities.
• Accompanying and/or transporting individuals to medical appointments as necessary.
• Collaborating with individuals and human service providers to advocate for and assist in meeting their employment, housing, and educational needs.
• Observing individuals' responses to treatment and reporting observations verbally or in writing.
• Attending treatment team meetings, sharing observations on progress, and suggesting alternative programs to revise treatment plans.
• Assisting in crisis and emergency situations to protect the welfare of individuals, staff, and others.
Minimum Qualifications Candidates from outside State Service can be considered for hire under the H0iring for Emergency Limited Placement - Statewide (HELPS) program if they have a High School or High School Equivalency Diploma.
OR
Candidates from within State Service can be considered for a competitive class appointment if they have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
License Requirement: Depending on assignment, you may be required to possess a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State at the time of appointment and continuously thereafter.
Additional Comments Background checks will be required.
This position will be assigned at one of Capital District Psychiatric Centers Outpatient Residence.
Four weeks of training is required, which will be scheduled Monday through Friday on the day shift.
