Job description
The Associate Administrative Director of the Master of Health Administration (MHA) program provides coordinated leadership for the program’s applied learning, student advising, mentorship, fellowship development, capstone/culminating experience, and professional formation activities. The role integrates functions currently distributed across multiple individuals, including the capstone, revised culminating experience, mentorship program, selected course responsibilities, and general advisement.
Working closely with the MHA Director, Vice Chair for Research and Education in the Department of Public Health, PHHA administrative team, MHA faculty, the APE Coordinator, Career Services staff, student affairs, admissions, alumni, mentors, preceptors, and other partners, the Associate Administrative Director strengthens the coherence of the student experience and supports the program’s positioning as a practice-oriented MHA grounded in academic medical center leadership.
Responsibilities Applied Learning and Culminating ExperienceCoordinate the MHA capstone sequence and revised culminating experience.
Work with faculty, preceptors, mentors, the APE Coordinator, and program leadership to align projects and placements with program competencies and applied healthcare management practice.
Support students in identifying project topics, applied learning sites, mentors, placements, and deliverables.
Coordinate with the APE Coordinator on placement processes, site expectations, student preparation, and documentation.
Monitor student progress and recommend improvements based on outcomes, feedback, and assessment findings.
Mentorship, Professional Development, and Fellowship DevelopmentManage and refine the yearlong MHA mentorship program in coordination with Career Services staff and program leadership.
Match students with mentors based on professional goals, interests, and mentor availability.
Establish expectations for mentor/mentee engagement and collect feedback for annual improvement.
Expand the mentor network through alumni, faculty, health system leaders, and healthcare management contacts.
Coordinate with Career Services staff on mentorship programming, professional development workshops, career-readiness activities, employer engagement, and student preparation.
Lead development of a funded MHA fellowship program within Mount Sinai, including potential host departments, funding models, selection criteria, timelines, student preparation, and placement coordination.
Identify additional post-graduate fellowship or administrative residency pathways with health system, academic medical center, affiliated, and external healthcare partners.
Track student interest, employer engagement, placement activity, and fellowship-related outcomes.
Student Advising and Professional FormationAdvise students on course planning, program progression, applied learning, mentorship, capstone planning, fellowship preparation, and career-readiness activities.
Serve as a first-line resource for student questions related to program requirements, timelines, and professional development opportunities.
Coordinate with the MHA Director, PHHA administrative team, APE Coordinator, Career Services staff, student affairs, faculty advisors, and course instructors when additional support is needed.
Support retention, progression, and student satisfaction through proactive communication and timely follow-up.
Identify recurring student concerns and recommend improvements to advising, communication, or program operations.
Curriculum and Program SupportHelp align course content, capstone expectations, mentorship activities, fellowship preparation, applied placements, and professional development experiences.
Support orientations, student events, alumni/employer panels, mentor activities, and other program-building initiatives.
Assist with gathering feedback, tracking participation, documenting outcomes, and identifying opportunities for operational improvement.
Support the MHA Director’s program evaluation and assessment work by helping collect, organize, and track relevant information related to capstone completion, applied placements, mentorship participation, student advising needs, fellowship development, and professional outcomes.
Help implement improvements identified through the MHA Director’s evaluation and assessment process, particularly in applied learning, advising, mentorship, fellowship development, placement coordination, and student communication.
Recruitment, Enrollment, and Market Positioning SupportSupport the MHA Director, PHHA administrative team, admissions, enrollment management, marketing, and departmental leadership in recruitment, yield, and student engagement efforts.
Participate in recruitment events, webinars, admitted-student activities, open houses, and information sessions.
Help communicate the value of the program’s applied learning model, mentorship structure, capstone experience, fellowship development, Sinai-based opportunities, and AMC setting.
Provide student-experience perspective to recruitment materials, yield activities, pipeline development, and program positioning.
Support efforts to strengthen the MHA program’s distinctiveness in a competitive graduate health administration market.
Appointment Term Qualifications Education RequirementsMaster’s degree or equivalent education and experience
Experience Requirements7-10 years of proven management ability including:
1.Knowledge and understanding of institutional regulations, policies, and practices specific to human resources management of BU and NBU staff
2.Knowledge and understanding of medical academic, clinical, research, and practice regulatory compliance
3.Administrative planning and leadership skills, particularly in the development and implementation of complex administrative programs
4.Ability to develop successful collaborative relationships at all levels within the organization.
5.Advanced analytical, evaluative, and objective critical thinking skills.
6.Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
7.Knowledge of clinical operations and/or administration in a medical school environment.
8.Working knowledge and understanding of practice productivity and performance measurement programs and systems.
9.Knowledge and understanding of facility and space management principles, processes, and techniques.
10.Knowledge of budgeting, fiscal management, and human resources management systems
