Position Overview

The Metropolitan Technician (Metro Tech) supports and maintains critical data center operations for Cloudflare facilities located in Los Angeles. This role is responsible for supporting IT systems, network services, infrastructure deployments, troubleshooting activities, inventory management, and operational support within mission-critical data center environments.


Key Responsibilities

  • Support data center operations and IT systems, network services, business critical processes and procedures to support the delivery of customer products and services;
  • Provide technical, operational and administrative support, including as it relates to colocation, connectivity, server hardware and network products and services;
  • Support internal networks, IT infrastructure, computers, electronics, and telephone systems;
  • Implement deployment plans from infrastructure spreadsheets, ensuring all physical rack, stack, and cabling steps precisely match the documented design;
  • Read, interpret, and execute deployments based on A-Z port maps, accurately identifying source (A) and destination (Z) locations, including patch panels, network devices, and specific port assignments;
  • Perform precise fiber and copper cable routing based on port maps, ensuring correct media types (e.g., Single-mode/Multi-mode fiber, Cat6), connector types (LC, SC, RJ-45), and proper bend-radius management within the rack;
  • Coordinate the ordering and physical installation and turn up of cross-connects with partners;
  • Perform basic network configuration and verification activities on network devices like routers and switches;
  • Perform software/firmware upgrades on network equipment;
  • Maintain hardware and circuit inventory record accuracy in DCIM tools during deployment activities;
  • Plan and execute network deployments;
  • Install and deploy IT and network hardware;
  • Make and run patch cables as well as verify testing cable paths;
  • Oversee access to, and work within, the Cloudflare facilities, including work related to structured cable
  • installation, circuit delivery, and equipment installations;
  • Support maintenance of infrastructure, network equipment, and network services, including but not limited to break-fix work;
  • Perform Data Center hardware and inventory and circuit audits;
  • Process incoming shipment, label packages, and maintaining designated storage;
  • Maintain/Uphold the cleanliness within the cage/rack;
  • Help manage tickets from end to end;
  • Travel to nearby cities; and
  • Assist with capacity and power audits.


Required Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of hands-on data center, remote hands, or mission-critical infrastructure experience.
  • Working knowledge of Linux operating systems (Ubuntu, CentOS, RHEL, or similar).
  • Experience supporting Cisco network equipment. Experience with Juniper, Arista, Infinera, and Ciena hardware and operating systems is strongly preferred.
  • Experience installing, racking, stacking, deploying, and troubleshooting servers, routers, switches, and other network hardware.
  • Experience performing server deployments, hardware break-fix, and basic server diagnostics.
  • Experience with structured fiber and copper cabling, including installation, routing, testing, and cable management best practices.
  • Ability to implement deployments from infrastructure spreadsheets while ensuring all rack, stack, and cabling activities match documented designs.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and execute deployments using A–Z port maps, including patch panels, network devices, and port assignments.
  • Experience performing cross-connect installations and coordinating vendor and carrier activities within a data center environment.
  • Experience performing basic network configuration, software/firmware upgrades, and troubleshooting on enterprise routers and switches.
  • Experience using ticketing systems such as JIRA and DCIM tools such as NetBox (or similar).
  • Strong understanding of data center operations, inventory management, and cable management best practices.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced, mission-critical environment.
  • Ability to lift up to 55 lbs (25 kg).
  • Reliable transportation and willingness to travel to nearby metro-area sites as needed.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Active CCNA certification.
  • ITIL certification.
  • Experience supporting hyperscale, colocation, or enterprise data center environments.
  • Experience planning and executing network infrastructure deployments.
  • Experience with hardware, circuit, power, and capacity audits.
  • Strong documentation, organizational, and project coordination skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams, vendors, and customers in production environments.


Work Expectations

  • Availability during standard business hours and flexibility for after-hours maintenance windows.
  • Ability to respond onsite within designated response times when required.
  • Adherence to all data center safety, security, and operational procedures.

Compensation & Benefits Disclosure

The base salary range for this role is $36.00 per hour. Our comprehensive benefits include health, dental, and vision insurance, Health Savings Account (HSA), gym discount, mental health, Discounted Group Life & AD&D, Discounted Group Short & Long-term Disability, 401(k) retirement matching, PTO/paid holidays, and parental leave. Final compensation will be determined by job‑related factors consistent with applicable law.
