Transit Engineering Senior Project Manager
Role Description: Huitt-Zollars, Inc. is seeking a Transit Engineering Senior Project Manager/Associate Vice President with 10+ years of experience in the design and management of transit and rail infrastructure projects. This position will be based in Dallas, Texas and will support both regional and nationwide transit and rail pursuits.
The ideal candidate will have experience managing multidisciplinary transit and rail projects, leading track and rail design efforts, developing client relationships, and supporting business development activities. The successful candidate should have experience working with transit agencies and rail clients such as Dallas Area Rapid Transit, Trinity Metro, Trinity Railway Express and BNSF Railway.

Duties:
Project Management & Technical Leadership
  • Serve as Senior Project Manager for multidisciplinary transit and rail projects.
  • Lead transit and rail design teams, including track/rail engineering efforts, plan production, and specification development.
  • Oversee project execution to ensure quality, schedule adherence, scope compliance, and profitability.
  • Prepare and manage:
    • Proposal and contract documents
    • Project work plans
    • Quality management plans
    • Risk management plans
    • Project schedules
  • Monitor project progress, including review of monthly invoices, budgets, and progress reports.
  • Provide construction administration support and oversee project closeout activities.
  • Coordinate with clients, stakeholders, subconsultants, railroads, and regulatory agencies.

Business Development & Client Management
  • Support and lead targeted transit and rail pursuits in North Texas and nationwide.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with transit agencies, railroad clients, and industry partners.
  • Identify opportunities, develop capture plans, and lead proposal and SOQ preparation efforts.
  • Assist in the development and execution of project win strategies.
  • Contribute toward office and Transportation Practice sales goals.

Leadership & Mentoring
  • Mentor and develop junior engineers and production staff.
  • Support staff development through training, coaching, and technical guidance.
  • Promote collaboration and performance excellence within project teams.
  • Participate in the growth strategy for the Transportation Practice transit/rail market sector.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Undertakes Project Manager responsibilities for major projects ($2.0+ million annual billing).
  • Prepares and follows comprehensive Project Framework Instructions and proper work planning for a project. Ensures proper staff is assigned and utilized on their projects.
  • Reviews project reports and performance metrics to track project progress and budget. Leads successful projects (profit, on-schedule, quality, satisfied client).
  • Contributes to successful delivery and performance of projects.
  • Cultivates relationships with clients and holds strong relationships with clients.
  • Understands, follows, and enforces Huitt-Zollars' business process including weekly rhythm.
  • Takes active steps in the pursuit of winning new business or additional opportunities with existing clients and is responsible for assigned portion of office sales goal. Assists and/or leads team in pursuit of new work (repeat work, SOQ and Proposals). Develops and/or executes project Win strategy.
  • Understands and follows HZ QMS and Quality initiatives. Ensures quality control measures are being adhered to on projects and daily operations.
  • Actively engages and participates in the training, coaching, and mentoring of junior staff.
  • Understands duties and responsibilities, possesses necessary job knowledge and technical skills, maintains job knowledge current.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering (BSCE).
  • Professional Engineer in Texas (PE).
  • 10+ years of experience in the design and management of transit and rail infrastructure projects.
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary transit and rail projects, leading track and rail design efforts, developing client relationships, and supporting business development activities.
  • Experience working with transit agencies and rail clients such as Dallas Area Rapid Transit, Trinity Metro, Trinity Railway Express and BNSF Railway.

This position will office out of our Dallas, TX location in a 'Class A' office space including a state-of-the-art gym (no cost), covered parking, food court, and more.
Physical Requirements:
