What is a Metro part time job?

Metro Part Time jobs refer to positions within metropolitan transit agencies or systems that require employees to work less than full-time hours. These roles can include bus operators, customer service representatives, maintenance workers, and administrative support staff. Part-time schedules offer flexibility, making them ideal for students, retirees, or anyone seeking supplemental income. Benefits, requirements, and available positions may vary by location and transit agency.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Metro part time employee?

To thrive as a Metro Part Time employee, you typically need strong customer service skills, basic math abilities, and a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with point-of-sale (POS) systems, inventory management software, and safety protocols is often required. Exceptional teamwork, reliability, and effective communication are valuable soft skills for this role. These skills and qualities ensure efficient operations, positive customer experiences, and smooth collaboration within a fast-paced retail environment.

What are some common challenges faced by part-time Metro employees, and how can they be managed?

Part-time Metro employees often face challenges such as managing irregular work schedules and adapting to shift changes, especially if they are balancing another job or school commitments. Additionally, learning to quickly navigate Metro's operational protocols and customer service expectations can be demanding in a fast-paced environment. Open communication with supervisors about availability and a proactive approach to learning can help ease these challenges. Building strong relationships with full-time staff and staying organized also contribute to a smoother work experience.

Assistant Drama Teacher - Part Time - School Year 2026-2027

Drama Kids - Metro Detroit West

Novi, MI

$15 - $30/hr

Full-time, Part-time

Posted 10 days ago

Job description

Assistant Part-Time Drama Teacher - Starting Fall 2026
Drama Kids Metro Detroit West -  Novi, Northville, Plymouth, Canton, Brighton, Wixom, Milford, & Livonia Areas

Help Kids Build Confidence Through Drama

Important: Please read before applying.

This is NOT a full-time position.

Compensation: $15-$30 per hour based on experience, reliability, and class assignment.  Most classes are 60 minutes in length and require approximately 85 minutes total on-site, including arrival, setup, teaching time, student dismissal, and parent pickup.

Drama Kids is a growing, women-owned small local business serving Novi, Northville, Plymouth, Canton, Livonia, Brighton, South Lyon, Livonia, Wixom, and surrounding communities. We are looking for energetic, reliable teachers who are passionate about working with children and using drama as a tool for confidence-building and personal growth.

This position is specifically designed as a supplemental-income opportunity and is not intended to replace full-time employment.  This position is ideal for:

  • Current Classroom teachers
  • Retired teachers
  • Substitute teachers
  • Stay-at-home parents
  • College students
  • Actors and performers
  • Professionals looking for extra income a few afternoons per week

Applicants seeking full-time employment are unlikely to find enough hours in this role.

Because we teach throughout western Metro Detroit, candidates must be comfortable driving to schools and community locations throughout our service area. We do our best to assign classes close to home, but flexibility with travel is essential.

About Drama Kids: Drama Kids is the world's largest developmental drama program. We use drama, creative movement, theatre games, public speaking activities, and imaginative play to help children develop confidence, communication skills, leadership abilities, and creativity.

This is developmental drama, not production drama. Every child participates, regardless of experience or ability level.

  • No auditions.
  • No cuts.
  • No elaborate sets.
  • No weekend rehearsals.

Our focus is helping every child succeed, not producing a perfect show.

What you will do:

  • Assist the lead teacher in engaging after-school drama classes using our proven curriculum
  • Assist the lead teacher with theatre games, movement activities, improvisation, and mini-scripts
  • Help children build confidence and communication skills
  • Create a positive and encouraging classroom environment
  • Build relationships with students and families
  • Serve as a positive role model for children ages 5-12

What this job is NOT:

  • Not a full-time position
  • Not a traditional theatre production company
  • Not a position for someone seeking 20-40 hours per week
  • Not a position with guaranteed daily hours
  • Not a remote position – Teaching children in person, not virtually
  • Not a role for someone unwilling to travel throughout western Metro Detroit

The Details:

  • Compensation: $15-$30 per hour.  Most classes require approximately 85 minutes total, including arrival, setup, teaching time, student dismissal, and parent pickup.
  • School-year commitment: September through May
  • Classes are held Monday through Thursday
  • Most classes begin around 3:30 PM
  • Assistant Teachers typically teach 1-4 classes per week
  • Each class includes approximately 15 minutes of arrival/setup time before class and 10 minutes after class for student dismissal and parent pickup
  • Training provided
  • Classes are assigned based on enrollment and location needs.
  • Hours may increase over time as our growing program expands into additional schools and communities.
  • Additional paid opportunities may be available for camps, performances, events, marketing, and special programs

You will be a great fit if you:

  • Love working with children
  • Have strong energy and enthusiasm
  • Enjoy drama, theatre, public speaking, or performance
  • Are dependable and professional
  • Have reliable transportation
  • Are comfortable driving throughout the Metro Detroit West service area
    • Some assistant teachers may travel 15-45 minutes between home, schools, and community locations depending on assignments
  • Can commit to a consistent weekly schedule throughout the school year

*Bonus points for experience in education, theatre, youth programs, camps, coaching, speech, communications, or child development.

The schedule is flexible and can be built around your availability. Here are some examples:

  • Can work 1 class a week = One class per week (3:30 PM – 5:00 PM)
  • Can work 2 classes back-to-back on the same day per week (3:30 PM – 5:00 PM and 5:30 PM – 6:30 PM)
  • Can work multiple classes across several afternoons and evenings (3:30 PM – 7:00PM) Monday – Thursday
  • Can work 1 class per day on Tuesdays and Thursdays (3:30 PM – 5:00 PM and 5:30 PM – 6:30 PM)

Ready to join us?

The assistant teachers who are most successful with Drama Kids are energetic, dependable, comfortable being silly, and genuinely excited to help children grow in confidence. While theatre experience is helpful, a passion for working with children is far more important.

As a growing business, we are continually adding new schools, classes, camps, and programs. Assistant teachers who are flexible and interested in growing with us will have the greatest opportunities for additional classes over time.

Apply today and help bring confidence center stage.
