Job description

Methodist Hospital is looking to hire a Surgical Tech (CST) to join our surgical team!  Come join us as a Partner for Good and help us make an impact on the care and experience that our patients and their families receive every day. 

Position Summary:

Practices under the direction of a Registered Nurse in an autonomous and collegial manner; while integrating clinical thinking skills, commitment, creativity and caring for our patient population.

Demonstrates practical knowledge of surgical instrumentation and equipment found in Everyman cases, as well as demonstrates the ability to perform, or to pursue education to learn how to perform, Everyman cases. Skills will be assessed on an ongoing basis to determine where further training is necessary, as well as if the Surgical Tech is a candidate to Scrub for Specialty Assignments such as to CV, Robotic Surgery, Ortho, Neuro, etc.

Work Schedule:

  • 0.75 FTE, 12 hour, Day/Night
  • Position will rotate weekends per departmental need, including up to every other weekend.
  • Call may be required on off shifts and weekends per departmental need. 
  • Position will participate in Holiday Rotation.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be certified through one of the following Surgical Technologist Certification Programs
    • CST (https://nbstsa.org/examinations-cst.html) - NBSTSA certification must be obtained within 1 year of employment. 

      or 

    • NCCT (https://www.ncctinc.com/General/VerifyCertification.aspx), at time of hire or will obtain the certification within a time frame appropriate for level of education
      • NCCT Certification, if a graduate from a NCCT accredited school, must be obtained within 1 year of employment. 
      • NCCT certification achieved through experience or as a military member must be obtained within 3 years from date of hire. 
  • In addition, maintenance of Certification must then be maintained throughout course of employment
  • Existing applicants who are already employed by Methodist OR and are exempt from Certification requirements will be considered, regardless of Certification Status
  • Practical knowledge of basic surgical instrumentation and equipment of orthopedic surgical procedures.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of aseptic technique and sterilization methods.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of age-related growth and development principles necessary to provide appropriate service and assure safety of patients.
  • Currently validated CPR skills preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education preferred.
