What does a meter tech do?

A Meter Tech, short for Meter Technician, is responsible for installing, maintaining, testing, and repairing meters that measure utilities such as electricity, water, or gas. They ensure meters are accurately recording usage and troubleshoot any issues that arise. Meter Techs may also collect data from meters, replace faulty equipment, and provide customer support regarding meter-related concerns. Their work is essential for utility companies to bill customers correctly and maintain reliable service.

What are some common challenges faced by meter techs in the field, and how are they typically addressed?

Meter Techs often encounter challenges such as working in adverse weather conditions, navigating difficult or remote locations, and troubleshooting malfunctioning meters. To address these, companies provide specialized training in safety procedures, supply appropriate personal protective equipment, and ensure access to support from supervisors or technical teams.
