This is a temporary position which requires a SAFE DRIVING RECORD and the use of a personal vehicle on a daily basis (mileage and gas expense reimbursed in accordance with the prevailing I.R.S. limit). This position does not offer health insurance coverage.
Selected candidates will be required to successfully complete background screening, including employment and education verification, driving history review, criminal review and drug test.
The meter reader performs field work in connection with reading gas, electric and other related work. Duties include: safely reading and recording meter readings at customers' premises; recording reasons for no-readings and recording any unusual conditions; resetting and resealing demand meters and meter enclosures as directed; reporting unusual and unsafe conditions to supervision in accordance with established procedures and reporting any emergency conditions immediately to supervision.
Physical Requirements:
Constant -Walking, on average 6-8 miles per day in all types of weather
Constant - Stair climbing, up to 100-150 sets per day
Constant - Standing
Frequent - Bending forward, Reaching, Flexing elbows and wrists, Twisting, Kneeling
Occasional - Sitting, Crawling, Twisting, Reaching, Turning, Crouching.
Occasional- Lifting of 20-30 lbs
Vision - Must be able to read meters
Other- Must be able to grasp and push buttons on hand-held device
Requirements:
Because the job requires driving to company locations and off-site assignments and events, must possess a valid driver's license with a safe and satisfactory driver history.
If you have 3 or more serious violations (e.g., point-bearing offenses, at-fault accidents, unsafe behaviors) in the last three years you will not meet this job requirement.
Must have and maintain in good operating condition, a motor vehicle for use in performing assigned duties.
Minimum of 6 months experience working outdoors within the last 3 years.
Must have communication skills, poise, and tact, in order to handle routine customer contacts in a pleasant and courteous manner.
Must be neat and accurate in work.
Must have a high school diploma or GED.
Must satisfactorily pass the Meter Reader Test.
Desired:
Experience with reading meters.
Experience working in a position in which you are aware of your surroundings and/or personal safety.
Ability to use good judgment in making on-the-job decisions and experience in having positive interaction with customers.
Ability to read maps
As an employee of PSE&G or PSEG Long Island, you should be aware that during storm restoration efforts, you may be required to perform functions outside of your routine duties and on a schedule that may be different from normal operations.
