Position Description

We are seeking a motivated and dependable HVAC Sheet Metal Apprentice II to join our commercial construction team. This position works under the direction of experienced sheet metal mechanics and field leadership while developing advanced installation skills. The Apprentice II assists with fabricating, assembling, installing, and repairing sheet metal systems including ductwork, control boxes, drainpipes, and HVAC equipment components. The ideal candidate demonstrates a strong work ethic, eagerness to learn, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and quality craftsmanship.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the fabrication, assembly, installation, and repair of commercial HVAC sheet metal systems.

  • Install ductwork and HVAC components in accordance with SMACNA standards.

  • Assist with the installation of air terminal units (ATUs), rooftop units (RTUs), split systems, and related HVAC equipment.

  • Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and installation details under the guidance of experienced mechanics.

  • Measure, cut, assemble, and install sheet metal using hand and power tools.

  • Maintain clean and organized work areas while protecting materials and equipment.

  • Work collaboratively with sheet metal mechanics, foremen, project managers, and other trade partners.

  • Follow OSHA regulations and Comfort Systems USA Mid South safety policies at all times.

  • Accurately complete assigned tasks while maintaining quality workmanship.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education, Training, Licenses, and Certifications

  • Minimum 1-2 years of commercial HVAC sheet metal experience or equivalent trade school/apprenticeship experience.

  • Basic understanding of commercial sheet metal fabrication and installation practices.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and follow written and verbal instructions.

  • Ability to accurately read a tape measure and perform basic measurements.

  • Familiarity with SMACNA installation standards preferred.

  • Ability to work a minimum of 40 hours per week with overtime as project schedules require.

  • Reliable transportation to assigned job sites.

  • Dependable, professional, and safety-minded approach to work.

  • Strong desire to learn and advance within the sheet metal trade.

  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

  • Ability to travel to job sites and occasionally stay overnight when required.

  • Physical ability to stand, bend, kneel, climb, lift, and carry materials weighing up to 75 pounds.

  • Possession of appropriate hand tools; experience using power tools preferred.

  • Valid driver's license and ability to meet company driver qualification policies.

  • Ability to pass a background check, drug test, and pre-employment fitness test in accordance with company policies.
