ATI is seeking to hire a Senior Process Engineer to support our Specialty Materials business unit. This position will be based in Monroe, NC.
As a Senior Process Engineer you will be responsible for providing post-melt technical support to Monroe, NC and Richburg, SC manufacturing facilities. This will include all hot rolling, forging, and similar post-melt processes. Radial Forging experience is strongly preferred for this role.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Internal/external technical contact for thermo-mechanical processing operations primarily focused on GFM radial forging.
  • Provide technical support to Operations for processing material when obstacles in production arise.
  • Provide technical support for outside conversion operations and internal Conversion Services as required.
  • Develop and maintain operational and metallurgical expertise in thermo-mechanical processing of Ni/Fe/Co-base, titanium, and specialty steel alloys through experimentation, technical literature review, best practice exchanges across ATI, and attending technical conferences.
  • Provide backup support for Monroe, NC open-die press forging operations.
  • Product line responsibility for Nickel/Specialty Steel alloy reroll billet. Track critical to quality process metrics and identify opportunities to improve yield, cycle time, and cost.
  • Maintenance and standardization of hot working operating and mill instructions.
  • Provide technical support in resolving process-related non-conformances and customer complaints.
  • Collaborate with Operations and Maintenance personnel to develop improvements to manufacturing processes and standards that enhance safety in the workplace, equipment performance and product quality.
  • Plan, execute and manage product/process continuous improvement programs. Apply statistical data analysis and thermal/deformation modeling tools as required to support initiatives.
  • Lead and participate in team-based, cross-functional continuous improvement activities including risk assessments, problem solving reports, cause/effect diagrams, process audits, and standard work.
  • Communicate results to management, colleagues, and customers in the form of written reports and oral presentations.
  • Support Product Engineering and R&D in the development, evaluation and standardization of new products and processes.
  • Create and implement items, recipes, mill instructions and other quality system documents.
  • Provide technical support during customer audits and inquiries.

Basic Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering or Materials Science (Metals Focused)

Preferred Qualifications
  • Three years of experience with process or product engineering industrial experience related to manufacturing Ni/Fe/Co-base, titanium and/or specialty steels alloys
  • Experience with continuous improvement and lean manufacturing methodologies
  • Working knowledge of wrought metals processing (i.e., melting, press forging, radial forging, hot rolling, conditioning, heat treatment, etc.).
  • Possesses an understanding and ability to clearly explain metallurgical principles critical to metals processing (e.g., recrystallization, strengthening mechanisms, and microstructure-property relationships)
  • Application of thermal/deformation modeling tools to solve problems and optimize processes preferred
  • Six Sigma Black/Green Belt or related certification
