Bracing Machine Operator Position Summary

The Bracing Machine Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining roll-forming equipment used to produce metal bracing components from steel coils. This role ensures products are manufactured safely, efficiently, and in accordance with engineering specifications and quality standards. The operator performs machine setup, monitors production, conducts quality inspections, performs routine maintenance, and troubleshoots equipment to minimize downtime.

Essential Responsibilities Machine Setup & Operation
  • Set up and operate roll-forming/bracing machines to produce metal components according to production schedules.
  • Install, align, and change roller dies and tooling on machine spindles.
  • Load steel coils using overhead cranes or forklifts.
  • Adjust machine settings, including material thickness, feed rate, forming pressure, and cut-to-length parameters.
  • Verify proper machine setup prior to production startup.
Production Operations
  • Monitor machine performance throughout production to ensure continuous material flow and efficient operation.
  • Ensure proper lubrication and machine functionality during production runs.
  • Maintain required production rates while minimizing scrap and downtime.
  • Record production information and complete required documentation in SAP and MES systems.
Quality Control
  • Perform first-piece, in-process, and final inspections.

  • Verify product dimensions and specifications using:- Calipers

    • Micrometers
    • Tape measures
    • Angle gauges
    • Other precision measuring instruments
  • Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings to ensure products meet dimensional tolerances.

  • Identify quality issues and make machine adjustments as necessary.

Preventive Maintenance & Troubleshooting
  • Perform daily preventive maintenance, including cleaning, lubricating, greasing, and basic equipment inspections.

  • Troubleshoot machine issues such as:- Material jams

    • Roller wear
    • Tooling alignment
    • Feed problems
    • Equipment malfunctions
  • Report maintenance concerns requiring advanced repair.

Safety & Housekeeping
  • Follow all company safety policies and OSHA regulations.
  • Adhere to Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures when servicing equipment.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area using 5S principles.
Qualifications Required
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience operating roll-forming equipment, metal fabrication machinery, or similar manufacturing equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work instructions.
  • Experience using SAP work orders and/or Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) is preferred.
  • Proficient with precision measuring instruments, including calipers, micrometers, tape measures, and gauges.
  • Ability to safely operate overhead cranes and/or forklifts (or willingness to become certified).
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
Preferred
  • Experience in steel processing, roll forming, or metal manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of preventive maintenance practices.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement principles.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
  • Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and climb as needed.
  • Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, moving machinery, and varying temperatures.
Work Environment
  • Manufacturing and production facility.
  • Frequent interaction with moving mechanical equipment.
