SUMMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 


The Maintenance Execution, Turnaround & Commissioning Manager is responsible for leading the strategic execution of major maintenance events, plant turnarounds, capital project commissioning, and precision maintenance initiatives to ensure safe, reliable, and cost-effective asset performance. This role drives maintenance excellence through effective planning, execution governance, contractor management, startup readiness, and the development of a world-class Precision Maintenance Program. 


KEY RESPONSIBLITIES 

Safety, Environmental & Emergency Response

Provide leadership for safety, environmental compliance, and emergency preparedness across all turnaround, commissioning, and precision maintenance activities.

Ensure compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and process safety standards.

Drive risk identification, incident prevention, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Support emergency response readiness and serve in designated emergency response leadership roles as required

Turnaround & Major Maintenance Leadership 

Lead planning, preparation, execution, and closeout of turnarounds, outages, and major maintenance events. 

Establish turnaround strategies, scopes, schedules, budgets, and resource plans. 

Coordinate cross-functional teams to ensure safe and efficient execution. 

Monitor turnaround performance metrics and implement lessons learned. 

Ensure contractor performance, productivity, and quality expectations are achieved. 

Commissioning & Startup Excellence 

Lead commissioning, startup, and operational readiness activities for capital projects. 

Develop commissioning and startup plans to ensure safe and efficient asset handover. 

Partner with Engineering, Operations, and Project teams throughout project execution. 

Ensure completion of PSSR, system turnover, and startup readiness requirements. 

Drive successful transition of projects from construction through operations. 

Precision Maintenance Program Development 

Develop and implement a site-wide Precision Maintenance Program. 

Establish standards for alignment, balancing, torque and tensioning, lubrication excellence, installation quality, and equipment rebuild practices. 

Drive precision maintenance training and competency development. 

Establish auditing and governance processes to ensure compliance with standards. 

Improve equipment life-cycle performance through precision practices. 

Team Leadership & Communication

Lead, develop, and mentor turnaround, commissioning, and maintenance execution personnel to build organizational capability and drive high performance.

Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, inclusion, and continuous improvement across teams and contractors.

Establish clear priorities, expectations, and performance standards to ensure successful execution of business objectives.

Communicate effectively with Operations, Engineering, Projects, Maintenance, and site leadership to align resources, manage risks, and achieve strategic goals.

Promote open communication and employee engagement while supporting workforce development, succession planning, and organizational change initiatives.



QUALIFICATIONS and SKILLS


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of alumina refining, Bayer Process operations, or other continuous manufacturing processes preferred.

Understanding of turnaround management, commissioning, startup readiness, and precision maintenance principles.

Knowledge of Process Safety Management (PSM), Management of Change (MOC), and operational risk management.

Demonstrated leadership, decision-making, and project execution skills in an industrial environment.

Strong planning, troubleshooting, problem-solving, and contractor management abilities.

Experience leading cross-functional teams and major maintenance events.

Familiarity with SAP or other CMMS platforms, DCS systems, and operational reporting tools.

Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and interpersonal skills.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and business systems.


Preferred

Experience in alumina refining, metals processing, mining, or chemical manufacturing.

Lean Six Sigma, Continuous Improvement, PMP, CMRP, or related certification.

Training or experience in Incident Investigation and Root Cause Analysis.

Emergency Response leadership experience.

Demonstrated success implementing Precision Maintenance, Turnaround, or Commissioning improvement programs.


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree preferred in Engineering, Industrial Technology, Maintenance Management, or related field. 

10+ years of leadership experience in industrial maintenance, turnaround management, commissioning, or project execution. 

Experience leading large-scale turnarounds and outage events. 

Experience supporting capital project commissioning and startup. 

Experience developing Precision Maintenance Programs. 

Alumina refining experience strongly preferred.
