Sheet Metal Installer II & III
Position Overview
As a Sheet Metal Installer II & III, you'll serve as a mid-level to senior-level expert in fabricating, assembling, installing, and repairing complex sheet metal ductwork and HVAC systems on commercial projects, applying mastery-level knowledge of dry-side applications to handle advanced installations, equipment startups, and troubleshooting with minimal supervision. Lead by example on the jobsite, mentor junior installers, and ensure high-quality, code-compliant results that contribute to safer, more efficient, and sustainable commercial facilities nationwide. Duties and Responsibilities
  • Independently fabricate, assemble, install, and repair advanced sheet metal ductwork, fittings, dampers, access doors, and specialty components per blueprints, specifications, and SMACNA standards.
  • Perform layout, field measurements, complex modifications, and precise sealing/hanging to achieve optimal airflow and system performance.
  • Conduct equipment startups, functional testing, system balancing, and final checkouts; troubleshoot and resolve complex issues on-site.
  • Read and interpret detailed blueprints, shop drawings, and as-built plans to coordinate installations and resolve field conflicts.
  • Lead small crews or act as lead installer on projects, providing coaching, mentoring, and direction to Level I and II installers.
  • Document work thoroughly, including startup reports, test data, material logs, and compliance paperwork for handover and warranty purposes.
  • Uphold and promote the highest safety standards through daily hazard assessments, toolbox talks, mentoring on safe practices, and strict adherence to OSHA requirements and PPE usage.

Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Level I & II: None (individual contributor; may offer informal guidance to lower levels).
  • Level III: Yes - Provides leadership, coaching, and mentoring to subordinate installers (Level I and II); may act as first-level lead or supervisor on jobsites, overseeing crew performance, safety, and task completion under the direction of the Foreman.

Requirements/Qualifications
  • Experience: 5+ years in commercial sheet metal/HVAC installation and fabrication; mastery-level knowledge of dry-side applications, design, and complex systems; proven ability to handle advanced tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Education: High school diploma or GED required; trade school, apprenticeship completion, or equivalent preferred. Current journeyman sheet metal license (or ability to obtain) strongly preferred.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to regularly lift and carry up to 50 lbs, climb ladders/scaffolding/stairs, work in confined spaces or at heights, bend/kneel/crouch, reach overhead, and use hand/power tools for extended periods; frequent standing, walking, manual dexterity, and physical stamina required.
  • Work Environment/Safety: Primarily field-based in commercial/industrial construction settings (indoor/outdoor, varying weather conditions, active job sites); exposure to noise, dust, heights, sharp materials, and mechanical hazards; must strictly adhere to OSHA regulations, conduct hazard identification, and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, harnesses, and steel-toed boots at all times-safety is our top priority and non-negotiable. This is a safety-sensitive position. Occasional regional travel within assigned market or on-call rotations may be required as business needs dictate.
