Reports to: Sr. Director, Facility Operations
Location: Arizona Cardinals (Tempe, AZ) NOTE: Starting 2028, this role will be based at the new Arizona Cardinals Training Facility in north Phoenix, AZ.

Job Summary:
The Building Engineer I will be responsible for preventive maintenance, repairs, office work and administrative duties for the Arizona Cardinals Football Club facilities. The role will include walking and/or standing on feet as well as lifting furniture, supplies, deliveries, or equipment. Work will include handling power tools and mechanical equipment. Indoor and outdoor projects in extreme temperatures can be expected.
Primary Job Duties:
The Building Engineer I daily responsibilities will include, without limitation, the following:
  • Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, life safety, and building automation systems.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on commercial HVAC equipment, including chillers, boilers, air handlers, VAVs, and split systems.
  • Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), and refrigeration issues in a timely manner to minimize downtime.
  • Read, interpret, and work from blueprints, schematics, drawings, and technical manuals.
  • Monitor building systems and respond to alarms, system failures, and emergency situations.
  • Coordinate, oversee, and support outside vendors when specialized services are required.
  • Perform repairs and modifications in-house where feasible to reduce operational costs and improve response time.
  • Support training schedules, and special events by ensuring facilities are operational and prepared.
  • Maintain compliance with EPA, OSHA, and local/state regulations and safety standards.
  • Document work orders, maintenance activities, inspections, and system performance.
  • Assist with capital improvement projects, equipment installations, and system upgrades.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to after-hours or weekend emergencies as required.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Proactively coordinate and schedule fire and life safety system testing, inspections, and repairs, ensuring full regulatory compliance and uninterrupted facility operations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements
  • Education: Technical or trade school program in HVAC, mechanical systems, electrical systems, or building maintenance.
  • Experience: At least five (5) years' experience in the successful performance of maintenance duties as a skilled technician in a commercial or industrial maintenance setting.
  • EPA Certification
  • OSHA 30 Certification
  • Electrical Workplace Safety Certification
  • Lift Certification (Boom, Scissors, Forklift)
  • Knowledge of boiler and chiller plants, water treatment, electrical, plumbing, building automation system controls, and cooling towers.
  • Ability to read & interpret blueprints.
  • Above average computer skills with experience using Microsoft office and Outlook
  • Ability to communicate clearly and follow directions.
  • Will accept long and unpredictable hours, seasonally scheduling.
  • Represent the Arizona Cardinals in a professional, and ethical manner.
  • Maintains the highest level of confidentiality and sensitivity around professional athletes in their work environment.
  • Must be able to stand and exert well-paced mobility for periods of up to eight (8) hours in length.
  • This role will require exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays; hours may vary depending on business needs.
  • Must complete all pre-employment forms and successfully pass a background check.
