Job description

Situated within UVic Libraries' Collection Management Services, the Digital Collections Assistant (DCA) reports to the Digital Collections Operations Manager and plays a key role in making cultural collections available online, through their work digitizing physical resources and describing those resources to facilitate discovery. The DCA primarily carries out high-quality standardized description of library resources, creating metadata for a wide variety of subjects, languages, and formats in the Libraries' digital collections platforms. The DCA also works under the guidance of the Digitization Supervisor to digitize a broad range of physical material, process images, and multimedia file formats.

This position requires moderate lifting, pulling, reaching, kneeling, crouching, repetitive movement and standing or sitting for long periods.Experience: This position requires a level of education, training, and experience equivalent to 3 years' working within a comparable environment. This ideally includes experience in metadata and/or cataloguing using library standards in an academic setting, working with digital asset management systems and digitization.
