Registered Nurse - Cardiology

The registered nurse facilitates unit operations and patient flow under the supervision of the Manager of Cardiology. These duties are to be performed in a highly confidential manner, in accordance with the mission, values and behaviors of Mercy Hospital and Medical Center. Employees are further expected to provide a high quality of care, service, and kindness toward all patients, staff, physicians, volunteers and guests.

Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Anticipate, plan, direct and evaluate the care of the patients provided by Cardiac Catheterization Staff and ancillary personnel.
  • Foster the professional development of unit staff through support of the orientation process and other educational activities
  • Direct the flow of patients
  • Monitor the planning, delivery and outcomes of care for area patient population.
  • Collaborate with other health team members to provide coordinated, safe, and compassionate care for patients.
  • Function as an expert clinical practitioner and role model for staff according to unit needs.
  • Works closely with cardiologist in the performance of invasive procedures and patient outcomes.
  • Support the cardiologists, manager, nurse coordinator and unit staff in the performance of invasive procedures.
  • Assists during procedure to assure a fast and efficient delivery of care to patients.
  • Delegates and adjusts care for patient population based on patient acuity and available staff.
  • Assists in the performance of invasive procedures such as scrubbing, equipment utilization and hemodynamic computation.
  • Document patient's status, test performed and follow up plans.
  • Actively participates in the operation of therapeutic and interventional equipment.
  • Participates in activities leading to quality outcomes.
  • Participates in the on-call schedule
  • Demonstrates dependability and flexibility in schedule.
  • Maintains own personal professional growth and development.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required. BSN preferred.
  • Current RN License in the State of Illinois required
  • Current certification in CPR required
  • ACLS certification required for critical care and ER.
  • Caring attitude required
  • Professional appearance required.
  • Willingness to increase own knowledge and skills and mentor others required.
  • Ability to relate well to professional and non-professional staff required.
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of accuracy in carrying out work duties required
  • Ability to cooperate effectively with others, a team player required
  • Ability to delegate appropriately required.
