Additionally, Mercy Hospital Downtown & Mercy Hospital Southwest have been recognized as an LGBTQ+ Healthcare Equality High Performer by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation. They are both Joint Commission-certified Primary Stroke Centers. Mercy Hospital Downtown offers the only inpatient Oncology Unit in Bakersfield while Mercy Hospital Southwest has the only Obstetric Emergency Department in Bakersfield.

Job Summary and Responsibilities
As our Director of Pharmacy for Mercy Hospital Bakersfield, you will be responsible for the oversight and coordination of daily Pharmacy Services operations in accordance with standards of practice, organizational policies/standards, procedures and applicable regulatory requirements.
Every day, you will be tasked with meeting financial objectives in labor, revenue and gross margins, implementing performance improvement initiatives, evaluating department effectiveness in meeting clinical/service expectations, and troubleshooting pharmaceutical care issues. The work you will do will require knowledge of the concepts, professional standards, and methodologies applicable to the pharmaceutical care, and of applicable regulatory requirements sufficient to ensure quality and compliant patient care.
To be successful in this role, you will need to exercise judgment and critical thinking in resolving complex issues, and apply solid principles of leadership, human relations and continuous quality improvement in the overall management, coordination, and refinement of our pharmaceutical care services.
We are offering relocation assistance to all hires who meet relocation eligibility requirements, and we are offering a sign-on bonus up to 10% of salary to fully qualified external hires.

Job Requirements
Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy, or Doctor of Pharmacy, required
  • Minimum of 4 years of recent pharmacy (or similar) work experience required.

Required Licensure:
  • Registered Pharmacist license in the State of California required.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 2 years in a leadership position preferred.
  • Pharmacy residency completed preferred.
  • Masters Degree (MBA, MS, MHA, etc) preferred.
  • Membership in the ASHP, ASCP, APHA and/or other professional associations preferred.
