Job Description Summary


The Technical Support & Field Applications Specialist provides high-quality technical support to customers, external sales representative partners, and internal sales teams for M4 Knick products. This hybrid role blends in-house technical troubleshooting with hands-on field service.

Based out of our Milford, OH headquarters, the successful candidate will resolve application challenges via phone and email while regularly traveling to customer locations to perform equipment startups, commissioning, calibrations, training, and advanced troubleshooting activities.


Time Allocation & Reporting


• Office-Based Support: 50–75% of time dedicated to customer support, application specification, and product service at headquarters.
• Field-Based Service: 25–50% of time dedicated to customer site visits for equipment commissioning, training, and onsite troubleshooting.
• Reporting Structure: Reports directly to the Technology Manager.

Primary Responsibilities – Remote Technical Support (50–75%)


• Specify Equipment: Gather essential process information to evaluate applications, recommend solutions, and support accurate product quotations.
• Resolve Issues: Assist customers, sales representative partners, and internal teams with setup, configuration, troubleshooting, and optimization of measurement equipment.
• Assist with RMAs: Evaluate, test, and diagnose returned equipment and prepare technical evaluation reports.
• Knowledge Management: Document technical support cases, service reports, and solutions within company systems.
• Support application reviews, product selection, and technical quotations.


Primary Responsibilities – Field Service & Applications (25–50%)


• Commissioning & Startups: Travel to customer facilities to perform equipment startups and verify proper installation and configuration of measurement loops.
• Calibrations & Testing: Perform field and bench calibration, validation, and testing of sensors and instrumentation.
• Onsite Troubleshooting: Diagnose equipment and application issues in industrial environments and implement technical solutions.
• Training Delivery: Conduct technical presentations and hands-on product training for customers, channel partners, and internal personnel.
• Identify recurring technical issues and support continuous improvement initiatives.



Requirements

Desired Characteristics & Experience

• Minimum 3 years of experience working with industrial instrumentation, process control equipment, automation systems, technical support, or field service.
• Strong foundation in instrumentation and industrial process automation.
• Knowledge of pH/ORP, conductivity, and dissolved oxygen measurement technologies is preferred but not required.
• Working knowledge of 4–20 mA, HART, Modbus, Foundation Fieldbus, Profibus, and EtherNet/IP.
• Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.
• Ability and willingness to travel approximately 25–50% throughout North America.

Education

• Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Instrumentation, Automation, Industrial Technology, or a related technical field.
• Alternative: Associate degree, military technical training, or equivalent combination of education and relevant industry experience.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to travel throughout North America.
• Ability to work safely in industrial environments including manufacturing plants, power facilities, water/wastewater treatment facilities, and chemical processing sites.
• Ability to stand, walk, climb stairs, and occasionally climb ladders.
• Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
