Job description

The Golf Pro Shop provides timely, friendly service while maintaining a high level of professionalism. The Golf Pro Shop Merchandiser Assistant will have significant involvement in managing the merchandise concession from buying to receiving to presentation, and is responsible for providing professional, friendly retail service to members and guests in the Golf Pro Shop while delivering exceptional service to West Lake members, guests, and golf course patrons. Additionally, the role will be active in the daily operations of the Golf Pro Shop in assisting members and guests with merchandise selection, operation of a point of sale system, handle credit card and member charge transactions, schedule golf tee times, timely and friendly response to members and guests needs both in person and over the telephone are integral to this role, and maintain the cleanliness and organization of the Golf Pro Shop and retail outlet. All responsibilities are carried out with a commitment to exceptional customer service and member satisfaction.

Position Functions and Duties:
  • Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, which include wearing the proper uniform and nametag when working.
  • Maintain regular attendance in compliance with the Clubโ€™s standards, as required by scheduling, which will vary according to the needs of the Club.
  • Greet and assist members and guests in a timely, friendly, and professional manner.
  • Assist members and guests with merchandise selection and inquiries.
  • Maintain a clean, well-organized, and professionally presented Golf Pro Shop and retail outlet at all times.
  • Manage the merchandise concession from buying to receiving and presentation.
  • Create innovative merchandise displays and seek ways to enhance sales through promotions, holidays, special events, and additional opportunities.
  • Assist in packing and unpacking inventory and golf operations supplies, and ordering supplies for the Golf Pro Shop as directed by the Director of Golf and/or Supervisors.
  • Monitor inventory levels and restock merchandise as needed.
  • Assist in inventory control alongside the Director of Golf and/or Supervisors.
  • Monitor and update special orders, ensuring timely arrival and accurate billing to member accounts.
  • Maintain accurate tracking systems for tickets, special orders, and vendor catalogs.
  • Utilize Northstar POS system and Microsoft Office suite proficiently to process transactions, manage inventory, and generate reports as needed.
  • Assist the Director of Golf/and or Supervisors with daily golf operations.
  • Answer phone calls and schedule golf tee times accurately and timely.
  • Process transactions accurately and timely using a point of sale system.
  • Ability to complete credit card transactions accurately and timely.
  • Ability to complete member charge transactions accurately and timely.
  • Issue receipts for member and guest purchases.
  • Assist in the reconciliation of member charges, credit card charges, and accounts receivable charges at the end of the day.
  • Opening and/or Closing of the Golf Pro Shop in accordance with the Clubโ€™s standards, policies, and regulations to encourage safe and efficient Golf operations.
  • Provide accurate information about the golf course, services, and golf lessons offered.
  • Assisting in promoting all golf activities, including women's, men's, juniors, camps, nine and dine, after-work league, and golf lessons.
  • Maintaining accurate and timely golf pro shop trackers (merchandise, comp, rain check, monthly range, etc).
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, both independently and as part of a team.
  • Communicate effectively with members, guests, and employees.
  • Flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and peak Club events as needed.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service to members and guests.
  • Perform other appropriate tasks as assigned by the Director of Golf and/or Supervisors.
  • Uphold company policies and procedures regarding members' and guests' interactions and transactions.
  • Be knowledgeable of and comply, at all times, with the Clubโ€™s standards, policies, and regulations to encourage safe and efficient Golf operations.

Qualifications/Education:
  • Qualified Certified Retail Management Certification (preferred).
  • Two (2) to four (4) years of experience in a retail management or customer service role, preferably within a high-end environment.
  • Retail sales and customer-focused mindset.
  • Retail buying or visual merchandising experience.
  • Knowledge of golf etiquette and merchandise is a plus, but not required.
  • Ability to complete point of sale transactions accurately and timely.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fastโ€‘paced environment.
  • Basic math skills for handling transactions accurately.
  • Must be able to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Good to excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to make smart, sound decisions with confidential information regarding events, members, and guests of West Lake Country Club.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.

Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to properly and effectively communicate with members and guests, in person and over the telephone.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, including bending, stretching, and lifting.
  • Lift and carry golf equipment and merchandise weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Work indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Must be able to work in person due to membersโ€™ and guestsโ€™ interaction and merchandise sales.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is performed in an indoor/outdoor setting. Some varied weather conditions are expected with exposure to heat/humidity, or cool/cold weather. Job has the potential to expose the employee to human blood or infectious materials. Varying schedule to include evenings, holidays, and extended hours as business dictates.
