Job description

JOB SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Donated Goods Manager, the Donated Goods Processor is responsible for the safe and efficient handling of all materials including sorting, cleaning, pricing, photographing, listing and stocking. Donated Goods Processors may also be assigned to cashier, merchandise and pull items utilizing electronic devices including a Point-of-Sale system, a handheld computer (PDA), a desktop computer, a camera or other electronic device depending upon assigned location.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Cleans, sorts, tags, hangs and/or stages saleable items in an efficient and timely manner.

Assesses each article as to quality, style, type and use. Tags, hangs, stages or lists item(s) according to work instructions/training.

Removes and deposits all unacceptable items into appropriate containers, i.e., Trash, As-is, Salvage, Shoes, Books, etc.

Operates cash register and/or computer with accuracy. Follows Agency cash handling policies.

Stages, merchandises, photographs and lists merchandise to enhance the sales potential of each item.

Demonstrate excellent customer service skills. May assist customers/donors with purchases or donations.

Supports Agency safety and security programs. Maintains housekeeping chores to ensure a safe and orderly working environment.

Observe and support all Agency policies.

Regular attendance is required in order to perform the essential functions of the job.

SECONDARY DUTIES

May act as back up to donation attendant or janitor as assigned.

Keeps Donated Goods Manager informed as to merchandise/supply needs, including any store maintenance and/or repairs required.

Perform other related duties as assigned by the Store Management staff.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education Required: Some high school education.

Experience Required: Six months' experience in processing, warehousing or customer service work experience is highly desirable.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Knowledge Required: Prefer, general retail store operations or warehousing; effective customer relations; and knowledge of material handling, are all highly desirable.

Equipment Used: Point of Sale system, cash mate machine, time recorder, pricing tablet, PDA and ticketing equipment, tagging gun, and credit card machines. Use of totes, hand trucks, pallet jack, electric pallet stacker, computer and camera depending on assigned location.

SKILLS/APTITUDES/TEMPERAMENTSAbility to work with diverse populations.

Ability to be flexible in handling a variety of tasks.

Ability to communicate and interact courteously with the public and co-workers.

Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.

EMOTIONAL EFFORT

This job requires moderate emotional effort involving customer interaction (internal and external). Work environment is fast paced with high activity/demands.

JOB SETTING

Flexible work schedule, including weekends and holidays. Variable environmental conditions ranging from 25 to 115 degrees. Exposure to the elements.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Ability to ambulate, reach, and lift up to 35 lbs. Ability to bend/lift from the waist. Ability to stand for long periods of time. Good hand/eye coordination. Good dexterity in upper extremities and upper torso.
