Description
The Department of Health Policy at Vanderbilt University's School of Medicine is conducting an open-rank search for assistant, associate or full professors with expertise in health policy.
The Department of Health Policy was established in 2013 and has grown to include 20 primary faculty and 27 secondary faculty from across Vanderbilt and the Vanderbilt University Medical Center. The combination of a major research university and preeminent medical center gives Department faculty incredible opportunities to build relationships with clinicians and policymakers which can lead to breakthrough discoveries. Faculty interests include health care financing, insurance design and coverage; aging and long-term care; precision and genomic medicine; delivery system improvement; provider payment; health services research; implementation science, pharmacoepidemiology; cancer epidemiology; infectious diseases, and global health. The Department is built on the premise that research and innovative thinking should guide health policy and policymakers to understand implications of policy choices.
The Department benefits from Vanderbilt's single campus, the depth and breadth of health-related research conducted across the institution, and its location in the state capital. It boasts a robust data infrastructure and currently has active data use agreements with entities includingTennCare (Tennessee's Medicaid program), Merative (MarketScan Commercial and Medicare claims), CMS (Medicare claims and Formulary Files), and the NCI (SEER-Medicare registry-claims linked data). We also have active collaborations with groups across our campus, including the Economics Department and Department of Medicine, Health, and Society; the Peabody School of Education; and the Owen School of Management.
Department faculty are centrally engaged in the Master of Public Health (MPH) and Health Policy & Health Services Research PhD programs, in addition to related educational efforts across the School of Medicine and University more broadly. Qualifications
Applicants must possess:
  • PhD in health policy, decision sciences, health services research, economics, statistics, public policy, public health, or a closely related field.
  • Evidence of or potential to attract external funding for their research.
  • Key strategic areas of research interest include Medicare Advantage, value-based payment (and payment reform more generally), delivery system innovation, and Medicaid/state health policy reform.
  • Candidates with advanced clinical training (MD, PharmD, or other clinical degree) are encouraged to apply but are also encouraged to reach out to the search committee in advance.

Successful applicants must be excited to develop and support educational and research programs in a collegial and collaborative environment. Synergies with existing faculty in the Department and across the institution will be viewed favorably, especially if collaborations would create new opportunities for discovery.
