Job description

Overview

Ramos CS, now a part of Colliers Engineering & Design, is actively hiring an MEP Inspector to support LAWA's construction inspection and work as a member of LAWA Quality Assurance & Construction Inspection Division across multiple projects within LAWA's Capital Improvement Program.


Responsibilities
  • Inspects the construction of a wide variety of airport improvements and utilities projects to ensure conformance to plans, specifications, contracts, permits, environmental documents, agreements for work, and may provide construction inspection support.
  • Conduct comprehensive daily inspections of mechanical and plumbing systems across building and terminal construction projects, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and project specifications, review and interpret construction documents including blueprints and shop drawings, submittals, RFIs, and change orders.
  • Demonstrates strong proficiency in preparing comprehensive daily inspection reports that clearly document the WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, and HOW of all observed construction activities, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and accountability in tracking progress and identifying issues, deficiencies, or safety concerns in a timely manner.
  • Verify contractor compliance with local and national mechanical and plumbing codes, and LAWA-specific standards.
  • Track and document time-and-material work, field changes, and job quantities.
  • Assist in validating contractor progress payment requests based on an approved schedule of values.
  • Support special inspections and testing activities, coordinating with engineers, contractors, and third-party agencies as needed.

Perform inspections of Mechanical and Plumbing installations including, but not limited to:

  • Domestic Water and Sewage Systems.
  • Venting, fire sprinklers, and gas piping.
  • HVAC systems (air handlers, chillers, boilers, ductwork).
  • Smoke Control Systems.
  • Mechanical ventilation and exhaust.
  • Fire and life safety integration (e.g. smoke dampers).
  • Mechanical and plumbing shutdowns, lockout / tagout procedures.
  • Commissioning and balancing reports.
  • Underground utilities.
  • Fire life safety systems including smoke/heat detectors and FM-200 suppression systems.

Qualifications
  • Mechanical inspection staff should have 3 years or more experience performing Mechanical inspections for Building Construction.
  • Mechanical inspection staff should possess a thorough knowledge of the materials and methods used in the installation of plumbing, heating, air conditioning and refrigeration installations.
  • Fall protection and harness training.
  • Proof of Cal-OSHA 30-hour training within the last 4 years.
  • Current ICC Certification as a Commercial Mechanical Inspector.
  • Additional Current ICC certification as a Commercial Plumbing Inspector.
  • NFPA 70E standards training within the last 3 years.
  • Plumbing experience (journeyman/master level) with progression into inspection.
  • Experience inspecting mechanical systems of large-scale commercial, industrial or public buildings.
  • Confined Space Entry Training.
  • Experience overseeing and ensuring compliance with building codes and regulations on significant construction projects.
  • Involvement in complex projects that require coordination with multiple stakeholders, including contractors, engineers, and city officials.
  • Expertise in identifying and addressing deficiencies, ensuring that all aspects of construction meet the required standards.
  • Must be open to learning the prescriptive items required by the agency.
  • A strong understanding of diverse code requirements (CBC & CMC).
  • Computer proficiency to review and utilize electronic equipment for contract documents efficiently, including change orders, submittals, RFIs, and other inspection documents, with minimal supervision.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to read, write and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.


Compensation: $145,000 to $155,000 per year (depending on qualifications)
