Job description

MEP Coordinator

Join the Lee Kennedy Team

Lee Kennedy Company is an award-winning construction manager and general contractor with over 40 years of experience delivering high-quality projects. We're passionate about building lasting partnerships, delivering exceptional results, and leading with integrity. Our success is built on a strong learning culture, a commitment to our people, and a drive to grow and develop talent across the organization.

Position Overview

The MEP Coordinator at Lee Kennedy Company (LKCo) is responsible for managing the coordination, quality, scheduling, safety, commissioning, and financial oversight of all Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Protection (MEP/FP), and low-voltage systems, including telecom, security, and AV.

This role ensures technical accuracy, constructability, code compliance, and seamless integration of building systems from preconstruction through project closeout. The MEP Coordinator serves as a key liaison between trade partners, design teams, VDC, commissioning agents, and project leadership to deliver high-performing, fully coordinated building systems aligned with LKCo's standards of excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Administration:

  • Identify constructability and code compliance issues during preconstruction and coordination.
  • Lead MEP coordination efforts, including clash detection, drawing reviews, and issue resolution.
  • Manage submittals, RFIs, documentation, and coordination meeting minutes.
  • Participate in buyout, scheduling, and trade partner meetings to align scope and logistics.
  • Support project closeout, including punch lists, inspections, and final documentation.
  • Utilize Procore, BIM/VDC platforms, OpenSpace, and related tools to manage workflow.

Schedule

  • Coordinate and sequence all MEP activities with trade partners to maintain overall project schedule alignment.
  • Plan and manage system shutdowns, tie-ins, and impairments in coordination with owner representatives and field leadership.
  • Provide weekly MEP status updates outlining manpower, RFIs, scope changes, and potential schedule impacts.
  • Inspect materials and installations to ensure quality, code compliance, and adherence to project specifications; maintain required testing documentation.
  • Develop and manage the commissioning schedule, oversee system integration, and partner with the commissioning agent to track and close deficiencies.

Risk Management

  • Support and enforce project safety standards through SiteForm inspections, training, and coordination with field leadership.
  • Lead MEP-specific QA/QC kickoff meetings and develop project-specific quality checklists.
  • Monitor installations to ensure compliance with applicable codes, specifications, and LKCo standards.
  • Identify and proactively escalate safety, quality, and constructability risks.
  • Track and close quality or safety deficiencies in coordination with trade partners and project leadership.

Financial Management

  • Review subcontractor requisitions and MEP change orders for accuracy and scope alignment.
  • Monitor subcontract scopes to ensure work is performed within budget parameters.
  • Identify and communicate cost impacts or delays to the project team in a timely manner.
  • Review and validate as-built documentation for completeness and accuracy.
  • Support cost control efforts through scope clarification and coordination efficiencies.

Business Insight

  • Maintain working knowledge of union agreements and EEO policies.
  • Collaborate with the General Superintendent and project leadership as needed.
  • Stay informed on industry trends, emerging technologies, and evolving building codes.
  • Attend seminars and pursue continuing education to expand knowledge of building systems and construction technology.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred.
  • 3-7+ years of experience in MEP coordination, building systems, or commercial construction.
  • Working knowledge of building systems integration and applicable codes.
  • Experience with BIM/VDC coordination and construction management platforms such as Procore.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment.

Compensation and Benefits
The estimated salary range for this position is $110,000-$150,000 annually, representing the company's good-faith and reasonable estimate of potential compensation at the time of posting. The final offer will be based on factors such as experience, skills, responsibilities, and current market conditions.

Our comprehensive benefits package includes:

  • Health & Wellness: Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance
  • Financial Benefits: 401(k) Plan, Flexible Spending Account (FSA), and Profit Sharing
  • Professional Development: Hands-on experience in the field on complex construction projects, mentorship and training from experienced construction professionals, and opportunities for career advancement within project management or the field
