What is menswear retail?

Menswear retail refers to the business of selling clothing, accessories, and footwear specifically designed for men. This industry includes brick-and-mortar stores, online shops, and department stores that offer a variety of men's fashion items, ranging from casual wear to formal attire. Menswear retail professionals help customers find the right size, style, and fit, and often provide advice on current fashion trends. The goal is to provide a positive shopping experience and meet the fashion needs of male customers.

What does a typical day in menswear retail involve?

In menswear retail, collaboration is key to providing excellent customer service and achieving sales goals. Team members often work closely on the sales floor to assist customers, restock merchandise, and maintain visual displays. They may also coordinate with the inventory or stockroom staff to ensure popular items are available, and communicate with store management regarding promotions or special events. This teamwork creates a dynamic environment where sharing product knowledge and supporting each other leads to greater success for the whole store.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a menswear retail associate?

To thrive as a Menswear Retail Associate, you need strong customer service skills, product knowledge in men's fashion, and a basic understanding of sales techniques, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with point-of-sale (POS) systems, inventory management software, and visual merchandising tools is typically required. Excellent communication, attention to detail, and the ability to build rapport with customers help you stand out in this role. These skills are crucial for ensuring customer satisfaction, driving sales, and maintaining an appealing store environment.

  • Oversee stock levels, replenishment, and back-of-house organisation within the department.
  • Participate in and contribute to TOTEME's social and environmental sustainability strategy.

Your Profile
  • 3+ years of experience in menswear specialty, or luxury, retail

  • Strong understanding of client service, sales performance, and retail operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships with clients and deliver a personalized styling experience.
  • Experienced in coaching and developing teams in a retail environment.
  • An understanding of visual merchandising and stock management, ideally within a menswear category.
  • Strong product knowledge and interest in luxury menswear, tailoring, fabrication, and contemporary style.
  • Fluent in spoken and written English.

About You
  • Passionate about menswear, with a genuine interest in luxury fashion, craftsmanship, and contemporary style.
  • A TOTEME ambassador who lives and breathes our culture and values.
  • An inspiring leader with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Confident in styling and advising clients, with the ability to translate trends and product knowledge into a meaningful client experience.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • A positive, hands-on, and solution-oriented attitude.
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively within a fast-paced retail environment.

This is a full-time position based at TOTEME's Madison Avenue Store starting in August 2026.
