Description:
Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts in Labor and Delivery.
Locals are allowed at the same rate.
Candidates must possess a valid Virginia license or a compact license.
Candidates with previous charge experience are preferred.
Experience with Epic charting system is required for all acute care settings.
Community hospital experience is necessary.
Candidates must have a minimum of 2 years of experience in Labor and Delivery.
Travel experience is mandatory.
Skills required include:
Administration of blood and blood products.
Amnioinfusion.
Antepartum and postpartum care.
Anticoagulation therapy.
Administration of antihypertensives and antiseizure medications.
Assessment of APGAR scores.
Assisting with circumcision and post-operative assessments.
Support for high-risk deliveries.
Conducting sterile speculum exams.
Assisting with vaginal deliveries.
Implementation of Baby Friendly protocols.
Breastfeeding and lactation support.
Car seat education for parents.
Management of cervical cerclage and cesarean sections.
Collecting cord samples and cord care.
Providing couplet care and discharge teaching to parents.
Administration of epidural anesthesia and management of episiotomy/incisional care.
Monitoring and handling postpartum hemorrhage patients.
Recognizing and addressing abnormal fetal heart rate patterns.
Thermoregulation and care of neonates.
Performing assessments including reflex checks, edema assessment, and clonus checks.
Starting and maintaining IVs.
Teaching parents circumcision care.
Administering vaccines.
Managing labor and delivery responsibilities while being capable of working in postpartum and nursery settings.
Handling a case load of approximately 350 deliveries per year.
Cross-training required in all areas of obstetrics.
Candidates must be capable of floating based on facility needs.
A supervisory reference is required for submission.
All certifications must be current and attached at the time of submission.
NIH and stroke education is necessary for all acute care nurses.
Specialty experience within the last year is required.
Requests for time off should be kept to a minimum with no more than 7 days total during the contract.
Any requests for time off must be included in the initial submission.
