How much do membrane jobs pay per hour?

As of Jul 8, 2026, the average hourly pay for membrane in the United States is $22.98, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $19.23 and $26.92 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What jobs does the cell membrane have?

Jobs related to the cell membrane include research and development in cell biology, biotechnology, and medical fields. Roles may involve studying membrane functions, developing pharmaceuticals, or working in laboratories with skills in microscopy, molecular biology, and biochemistry.

What are membrane jobs?

Membrane jobs typically refer to roles involved in the research, development, production, or maintenance of membrane technologies. These membranes are thin barriers used in processes like water purification, gas separation, and medical applications. Professionals in this field may work as engineers, scientists, or technicians, focusing on tasks such as designing new membrane materials, optimizing filtration systems, or ensuring quality control in manufacturing. The work environment can range from laboratories to industrial plants, depending on the specific job.

What are the three jobs of the cell membrane?

The cell membrane's three main functions are to protect the cell by acting as a barrier, regulate the movement of substances in and out of the cell, and facilitate communication and signaling between cells. These roles are essential for maintaining cellular homeostasis and proper function. Membrane proteins and lipids work together to perform these tasks efficiently.

What is the difference between Membrane vs Membrane Technician?

AspectMembraneMembrane Technician
CredentialsTypically requires a degree in engineering or related fieldRequires technical certifications and hands-on training
Work EnvironmentDesign, research, and development settingsFieldwork, installation, and maintenance sites
Industry UsageUsed broadly in industries like water treatment, biotech, and energyPrimarily in water treatment and industrial filtration
Job FocusDesign and development of membrane systemsInstallation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of membrane systems

Membrane professionals focus on designing and developing membrane technologies, often working in labs or R&D settings. In contrast, Membrane Technicians handle the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of membrane systems in the field. Both roles are essential in industries like water treatment and biotech, but they differ in responsibilities and work environments.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Membrane Technician, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Membrane Technician, you need a background in chemistry, water treatment processes, and mechanical aptitude, often supported by relevant technical training or an associate degree. Familiarity with membrane filtration systems, water quality testing equipment, and SCADA control systems is typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication help technicians respond quickly to issues and work within a team. These skills ensure the efficient operation and maintenance of membrane systems, which is critical for producing clean water and meeting regulatory standards.

What biology jobs pay over $100k?

Biology-related jobs that typically pay over $100,000 include biomedical scientists, pharmacologists, and research directors, often requiring advanced degrees such as a PhD and specialized skills. Positions in biotech, pharmaceuticals, and healthcare research tend to offer higher salaries, especially with experience and leadership responsibilities.

What are the examples of membrane technology?

Membrane technology involves the use of semi-permeable membranes to separate substances in processes such as reverse osmosis, ultrafiltration, nanofiltration, and microfiltration. These methods are widely used in water treatment, wastewater recycling, and food processing industries. Professionals working with membranes often need knowledge of material selection, system design, and maintenance to ensure effective operation.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in membrane technology roles?

Professionals in membrane technology often encounter challenges such as membrane fouling, scaling, and maintaining optimal operational efficiency over time. They must regularly troubleshoot system performance, adapt to varying feedwater qualities, and select appropriate cleaning protocols. Successful collaboration with multidisciplinary teams—including process engineers, lab technicians, and plant operators—is essential to continually improve system performance and ensure compliance with environmental standards.
