Member Support Supervisor information

What does a member support supervisor do?

A Member Support Supervisor oversees a team responsible for assisting members or customers, ensuring their inquiries and issues are resolved efficiently. They monitor team performance, provide coaching and training, and implement procedures to improve service quality. Additionally, they may handle escalated cases, analyze member feedback, and collaborate with other departments to enhance the overall member experience.

How does a member support supervisor balance overseeing daily team performance with resolving escalated member issues?

As a Member Support Supervisor, you will often juggle monitoring your team's performance metrics—such as response times and customer satisfaction—while also acting as the escalation point for more complex or sensitive member concerns. This requires strong time management and communication skills, as you may need to shift between coaching staff, analyzing trends, and directly interacting with members. Successful supervisors set clear priorities, delegate routine tasks effectively, and maintain open communication channels to ensure both team success and high-quality member support.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a member support supervisor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Member Support Supervisor, you need strong leadership abilities, experience in customer service, and typically a background in business or a related field. Familiarity with CRM software, help desk ticketing systems, and performance analytics tools is often expected. Excellent communication, conflict resolution, and team motivation skills help you guide your team and ensure positive member experiences. These skills are crucial for maintaining high service standards, fostering a collaborative environment, and achieving organizational goals.

Full job description

Position Summary

The Support Specialist is an integral member of the Amend Treatment team and is responsible for supporting the safety, structure, and day-to-day experience of clients within the residential treatment environment. This position works closely with the clinical and operations teams to provide consistent client supervision, maintain a therapeutic and welcoming milieu, support daily programming, and ensure that Amend's policies, procedures, and standards of care are followed.

The ideal Support Specialist is dependable, professional, proactive, compassionate, and able to maintain appropriate boundaries while developing positive relationships with clients. This role requires strong communication, sound judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to remain calm and effective in a dynamic treatment environment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Client Support & Safety

  • Maintain appropriate client supervision, including line-of-sight, Q15, and 1:1 supervision when assigned.
  • Monitor client behavior, safety, and well-being and promptly communicate concerns to the appropriate clinical or supervisory team member.
  • Support clients experiencing emotional distress or dysregulation while following Amend's established safety and crisis-response protocols.
  • Maintain client dignity, privacy, confidentiality, and professional boundaries at all times.
  • Identify and promptly address environmental hazards, contraband, and other potential safety concerns.

Milieu & Program Support

  • Help maintain a safe, structured, therapeutic, and welcoming residential environment.
  • Support the daily program schedule and assist clients with transitions between groups, meals, appointments, outings, and other activities.
  • Provide meal and post-meal support as directed by the client's care plan.
  • Facilitate assigned groups using approved curriculum and support appropriate group participation and dynamics.
  • Safely transport and supervise clients during approved outings and appointments as assigned.
  • Assist with admissions, discharges, room preparation, belongings inventories, and client orientation.

Documentation & Communication

  • Complete accurate and timely shift notes, group notes, logs, checklists, and other required documentation.
  • Document objective and behaviorally specific client observations without diagnosing or making unsupported clinical interpretations.
  • Participate in thorough shift handoffs and communicate relevant client information to the appropriate members of the treatment team.
  • Immediately escalate significant safety, behavioral, medical, or clinical concerns according to Amend protocols.

Medication & Emergency Support

  • Provide medication-related support within the scope of the position and in accordance with Amend policies and procedures.
  • Follow medication documentation, controlled-substance, security, and medication-error protocols.
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies, including psychiatric or medical crises, suicidal ideation, self-harm concerns, AWOL situations, and other urgent safety issues.
  • Participate in and support required emergency preparedness procedures and drills.

Facility & Hospitality Standards

  • Maintain clean, organized, safe, and client-ready residential spaces throughout each shift.
  • Assist with routine household responsibilities, room turnovers, supplies, food storage, and general upkeep as assigned.
  • Provide a high level of hospitality to clients, families, visitors, vendors, and other guests.
  • Proactively identify client and facility needs rather than waiting to be asked.

Professional Expectations

Support Specialists are expected to demonstrate Amend's standards of professionalism, teamwork, and client-centered care. Employees must communicate respectfully, accept feedback and coaching, maintain appropriate boundaries, protect client confidentiality and HIPAA requirements, and avoid gossip, triangulation, favoritism, or other conduct that could negatively impact clients or the treatment environment.

Support Specialists are also expected to arrive on time and prepared for each shift, collaborate effectively across shifts and departments, assist teammates when appropriate, and maintain professionalism during high-acuity situations, staffing challenges, emergencies, and regulatory visits.
