What is a meeting planner?

Meeting planners organize large meetings or events for businesses and organizations. They are commonly found working for the health care industry and for any large corporations. Organizations hold meetings and conventions for a variety of reasons, including team-building, guest speakers, and professional training. The day-to-day duties of a meeting planner involve coordinating all aspects of the gatherings from beginning to end, which may include selecting a location, negotiating contracts, arranging logistics, hiring caterers, and obtaining lodging for attendees. While event management is the most significant portion of the job, responsibilities also include staying within budget, following any regulatory guidelines, and reporting on the event to supervisors.
