Job description

Cardiologist Position at MedStar Heart and Vascular Institute

The MedStar Heart and Vascular Institute is seeking a highly skilled, academic-oriented cardiologist to join our faculty. This position will be primarily based at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, a premier academic medical center recognized for clinical excellence and advanced specialized care.

The successful candidate will join a collaborative team dedicated to cutting-edge clinical care, fellowship education, and clinical research. While this is primarily an academic general cardiology role, the position features a dedicated focus on providing comprehensive cardiovascular support to our robust solid organ transplant program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Clinical Care: Deliver comprehensive general cardiovascular care across ambulatory clinic settings, inpatient consultative services, and cardiology teaching wards.
  • Echocardiography Services: Interpret and oversee non-invasive imaging, specifically Echocardiography (TTE/TEE).
  • Solid Organ Transplant Team Support: Provide specialized cardiovascular evaluation, pre-operative risk stratification, and longitudinal management for solid organ transplant candidates and recipients.
  • Education & Faculty Duties: Provide dedicated teaching, mentorship, and clinical supervision to cardiovascular disease fellows and Georgetown University medical students. Academic appointment at the Georgetown University School of Medicine will be commensurate with experience.
  • Research & Innovation: Participate in and contribute to the department's clinical research portfolio, registry enrollments, and academic publications.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: MD, DO, or equivalent medical degree.
  • Certification: Board Eligible or Board Certified (BE/BC) in Cardiovascular Disease.
  • Specialized Training & Skills:
    • Formal training and proficiency in Echocardiography (TTE/TEE).
  • Licensure: Eligible for an unrestricted medical license in the District of Columbia.
  • Attributes: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, a commitment to academic medicine, and a collaborative approach to multidisciplinary patient care.
