Familiarity with electronic medication administration records (eMAR), automated dispensing systems, and standard safety protocols is essential. What is a medication tech?

Medication Techs, also known as Medication Technicians or Med Techs, are healthcare professionals responsible for assisting licensed nurses by administering medications to patients, typically in long-term care facilities, assisted living communities, or group homes. They ensure medications are given accurately according to physicians' orders and maintain detailed records of administration. Medication Techs also monitor patients for side effects, report any concerns to nursing staff, and help with other daily care tasks as needed. Their role is vital in supporting patient health and safety within their scope of practice.

What are some common challenges medication techs face when managing medication administration in assisted living facilities?

Working in a team-oriented environment, Medication Techs also need to adapt quickly to changes in protocols and support residents with compassion and professionalism.
