Pharmacy Clerk - Oakland - San Leandro, CA

Compensation: $19 - $20 hourly

Overview: Nexus HR is seeking a Pharmacy Clerk with strong experience in a fast-paced Long-Term Care, Retail, and/or Specialty pharmacy setting. The ideal candidate will have experience in pharmacy operations, strong clerical and customer service skills, and the ability to accurately interpret prescription information while supporting pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.

The Pharmacy Clerk plays a vital role in supporting daily pharmacy operations by processing prescriptions, maintaining records, handling customer inquiries, and ensuring accurate data entry. This position requires a high level of accuracy, professionalism, and compliance with HIPAA regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Greet and assist customers in a professional and courteous manner.

  • Receive, process, and enter prescription information accurately.

  • Respond to customer inquiries via phone and in person.

  • Collect and verify prescription, insurance, and patient information.

  • Prepare prescription orders for review and fulfillment by pharmacy technicians and pharmacists.

  • Maintain and organize prescription records and documentation.

  • Perform filing, data entry, and other administrative duties as needed.

  • Ensure the confidentiality and security of Protected Health Information (PHI) in compliance with HIPAA regulations.

  • Support the pharmacy team in maintaining workflow efficiency and quality standards.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Pharmacy Clerk or in a similar healthcare or pharmacy support role.

  • Experience in a long-term care, retail, and/or specialty pharmacy environment preferred.

  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • Strong organizational, multitasking, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a customer-focused approach.

  • Proficient typing and data-entry skills with a high level of accuracy.

  • Ability to read and interpret prescription terminology, medication names, and dosage instructions.

  • Familiarity with commonly prescribed generic medications and routes of administration.

  • Knowledge of common prescription abbreviations and Latin prescription symbols.

  • Ability to calculate medication dosages and days' supply accurately.

  • Capable of working effectively in a collaborative team environment.

  • Demonstrated reliability, professionalism, attention to detail, and commitment to quality.
