What is a Medical Spa RN?

A Medical Spa RN, or Registered Nurse, works in a medical spa setting to provide various aesthetic and cosmetic treatments under the supervision of a medical director or physician. Their duties often include administering injectables like Botox and dermal fillers, performing laser treatments, and conducting consultations for skin care and cosmetic procedures. They are responsible for assessing clients, ensuring safety and proper technique, and educating patients about treatment options and aftercare. Medical Spa RNs must hold a valid nursing license and often receive specialized training in aesthetic procedures. This role combines clinical nursing skills with a focus on patient wellness and beauty.

What does a Medical Spa RN do?

As a medical spa RN, your job is to perform non-surgical cosmetic procedures for clients. This may involve injections, fillers, or laser procedures, and you may be asked to assist a doctor for complex treatments. Aside from performing treatments, medical spas have an emphasis on comfort and luxury, so you are also expected to demonstrate outstanding customer service skills at all times. Medical spa RNs frequently evaluate client suitability for treatments, suggest alternatives when the original request is a poor choice, educate clients on pre- and post-treatment care plans, and travel between facilities as necessary. Most medical spa treatments occur on the same day the client requests them.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Medical Spa RN?

To thrive as a Medical Spa RN, you need a current RN license, a solid understanding of aesthetic procedures, and experience in patient care. Familiarity with devices such as lasers, injectables (like Botox and fillers), and electronic medical record systems is typically required, along with relevant certifications in medical aesthetics. Exceptional interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and the ability to educate and reassure clients set top performers apart. These skills are vital for delivering safe, effective treatments, building client trust, and ensuring a high standard of care in a growing field.

What are the typical daily responsibilities of a Medical Spa RN, and how do they collaborate with other team members?

A Medical Spa RN typically spends their day performing non-surgical aesthetic procedures such as injectables, laser treatments, and patient consultations regarding skincare. They collaborate closely with medical directors, aestheticians, and administrative staff to ensure safe, effective, and personalized care for clients. RNs are responsible for assessing patient suitability for treatments, providing pre- and post-care instructions, and maintaining accurate medical records. Teamwork and strong communication skills are essential for coordinating appointments, sharing patient information, and ensuring a seamless client experience.

Job description

Functional Health Nurse Practitioner - Body + Beauty Lab

Locations: Philadelphia, PA & Radnor, PA

About Us:

Body + Beauty Lab is a medical spa built around collaborative, high-standard patient care. We're growing our Integrative Health program and looking for a provider who wants to build real expertise in functional medicine over time.

Job Summary:

We're hiring a Pennsylvania-licensed Nurse Practitioner to join our Integrative Health clinic servicing our Philadelphia and Radnor locations. No previous experience in integrative health is required. The ideal candidate is motivated to grow professionally, and wants a real foot in the door into functional/integrative medicine.

You'll begin by providing clinical support across our integrative clinics for your first year, building a strong foundation in how the practice runs and how our patients are cared for. Then, by your second year, you'll be enrolled in a structured training program, developing expertise across hormone therapy, gut health, thyroid optimization, weight management, and peptide therapy.

This is a rare opportunity in the industry: a real, structured path from clinical support into specialized integrative practice, with the practice investing in your growth every step of the way.

Responsibilities

Year 1 - Procedural Provider & Clinical Support

  • Support our IV clinic and perform pellet insertions
  • Support patient care coordination: lab ordering under the supervision of a senior provider, patient education, and patient communication
  • Conduct patient intakes covering health history, lifestyle, nutrition, and symptom patterns; document histories and clinical notes
  • Communicate with patients through the patient portal
  • Travel between our Philadelphia and Radnor locations as needed
  • Learn the practice's approach to root-cause, whole-person care alongside experienced providers

Year 2 - Structured Training Program & Growing Your Own Caseload

  • Enroll in a structured training program covering hormone therapy, gut health, thyroid optimization, weight management, and peptide therapy
  • Begin ordering and interpreting functional/specialty labs independently (hormone panels, gut health, thyroid, metabolic markers)
  • Progressively build toward seeing your own patients on a full-time basis, supported by the structured program and accountable to defined performance KPIs
  • Develop individualized, root-cause treatment plans combining conventional and integrative approaches
  • Educate patients on lifestyle, nutrition, and treatment protocols

Requirements

  • Active Pennsylvania Nurse Practitioner license (required)
  • Board certification (FNP, AGNP, or equivalent)
  • Minimum of 1-2 years working in a hospital setting as a RN or NP
  • No integrative or functional medicine experience necessary
  • Motivated, coachable, and eager to build a long-term career in integrative health
  • Excellent communication skills and a patient-centered approach to care
  • Willingness to work across both Philadelphia and Radnor locations

Benefits

  • Salary based on experience - more details shared during the interview process
  • Fully paid, structured 2-year clinical training program in functional health - a $30,000 investment in your development as you grow from supporting patient care in year 1 to practicing independently by year 2
  • Health insurance, PTO
