About the Role:
SiSTEM is hiring experienced science tutors to work with motivated students and families in the greater Houston area.
This is not a volume tutoring gig. Our tutors work as trusted academic partners with families who value expertise, helping students build real understanding, scientific thinking skills, and confidence in science at every level.

What You'll Do:
  • Work one-on-one with students in grades K–12 to provide focused science instruction at their level.
  • Help students develop deeper conceptual understanding, not just memorize facts for the test.
  • Build scientific reasoning, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Make abstract concepts concrete through clear explanations, real-world connections, and structured practice.
  • Identify and close gaps in foundational science knowledge that are holding students back.
  • Align your sessions with each student's broader academic roadmap through SiSTEM's planning tools.
  • Communicate with families on progress and strategy when appropriate.
  • Maintain high standards of preparation and professionalism.

Strong candidates typically have:
  • 3+ years of teaching, tutoring, or academic mentoring experience in science.
  • Deep expertise in at least one of the science subjects listed above.
  • Experience working with motivated students who are in honors, Pre-AP, AP, gifted, or test prep settings.
  • A track record of helping students improve grades, build confidence, or master concepts they previously struggled with.
  • Clear, patient communication and the ability to make science click for students who think they're "not a science person".
  • Professional reliability.

Bonus: current or former science teachers, scientists, engineers, medical professionals, or STEM researchers who tutor, educators with degrees in biology, chemistry, physics, or science education, tutors with experience coaching science fair or STEM competitions.
