The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Description of Work

This Medical Records Assistant/Administrative Specialist I position is located in Dan River Correctional. This position is responsible for the Administrative Management of the Medical Records Section. This position requires the knowledge of patient confidentiality, what is needed to release information from an offenders medical and mental health records. These duties entail the distribution and handling of incoming and outgoing correspondence, answering telephone calls, researching information, assisting in the placement and retrieval of medical records. This Medical Records Assistant must be able to communicate with a multitude of people at all levels of state government, correctional facilities, law enforcement agencies, health departments, offender's families, attorneys and the general public. This position will develop and maintain on-going reports relating to a variety of medical record activities, must possess great attention to detail and accuracy in all assigned tasks, work independently and should have knowledge and use of modern office equipment and software packages. Other duties may be assigned.
