Job description

PLC Technician

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and repair PLC-controlled equipment, electrical systems, instrumentation, and automation components to minimize downtime.
  • Program, modify, and maintain PLC logic, HMI interfaces, and variable frequency drive (VFD) parameters to support reliable and efficient operations.
  • Diagnose electrical and control system failures using meters, software diagnostics, and other testing equipment, and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on automation and control systems to reduce unplanned outages and extend equipment life.
  • Support production teams by responding quickly to equipment breakdowns and process interruptions, ensuring safe and timely resolution.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs, loop drawings, and control diagrams to troubleshoot and modify systems accurately.
  • Install and commission new automation equipment, sensors, motors, drives, and control panels in accordance with technical specifications and safety standards.
  • Assist with continuous improvement projects focused on safety, product quality, operational efficiency, and downtime reduction.
  • Calibrate and maintain process instrumentation, including pressure, temperature, level, and flow devices, to ensure accurate and reliable measurements.
  • Collaborate with engineering, maintenance, and operations teams to identify root causes of recurring issues and implement long-term solutions.
  • Document maintenance activities, programming changes, and system configurations to maintain accurate records and support future troubleshooting.

Essential Skills

  • 3–5 years of experience in industrial automation, PLC maintenance, or electrical controls within a manufacturing environment.
  • Hands-on experience troubleshooting PLC systems such as Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar platforms.
  • Proficiency in PLC programming, modification, and troubleshooting for production equipment and automation systems.
  • Ability to configure, adjust, and maintain HMI interfaces and VFD parameters.
  • Knowledge of industrial electrical systems including motors, starters, relays, sensors, and VFDs.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical schematics, P&IDs, loop drawings, and other technical drawings.
  • Knowledge of SCADA systems and process instrumentation for monitoring and control of industrial processes.
  • Understanding of NEC, NFPA 70E, and industrial safety standards as they apply to electrical and control systems.
  • Experience with industrial communication protocols such as Ethernet/IP and Modbus.
  • Strong troubleshooting, diagnostic, and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced production environment.

Work Environment

  • This position operates in a dirty and hot industrial manufacturing environment where personal protective equipment (PPE) is required at all times.
  • You will regularly use hazmat suits, respirators, safety boots, and safety glasses as part of daily operations.
  • The role follows a 1st shift schedule from 6:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m., and you should be comfortable working six days per week and, at times, seven days per week based on production demands.
  • The work involves close interaction with PLC-controlled systems, industrial electrical equipment, instrumentation, and automation technologies, all within a safety-focused setting that emphasizes proper PPE use and adherence to established safety procedures.

The pay range for this position is $79040.00 - $99840.00/yr.
