What Your Job Will Be Like
We are seeking a Intern Year Round - R&D Undergrad
On any given day, you may be called on to:
  • Assist with thin-film deposition experiments using physical vapor deposition and chemical vapor deposition techniques, including electron beam evaporation, sputtering, and atomic layer deposition
  • Prepare substrates for deposition by performing cleaning procedures on wet benches and mounting samples for processing
  • Collect, organize, and analyze experimental data to evaluate thin-film properties such as thickness and stress
  • Support the operation and upkeep of laboratory spaces, including routine cleaning and general lab maintenance
  • Summarize and communicate research results through informal updates, technical discussions, and, when appropriate, conference or seminar presentations

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

Salary Range

At Sandia, we value the important work done by our interns and its contribution to National Security. Because of this, our interns earn competitive pay rates. Our pay structure is based on earned credit hours, classification, and degree level. Your pay rate will be determined during the hire process and included in your offer package. Qualifications We Require

You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:

  • Currently attending and enrolled full time in an accredited undergraduate program
  • Pursuing a science, engineering, or math major
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
  • Ability to work up to 25 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer
  • Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship

Note: If you have not earned a HS diploma or equivalent, please apply to a high school intern position.

Qualifications We Desire
  • The ability to acquire and maintain a DOE LL-level security clearance ( Must be U.S. citizen)
  • The ability to work on site at Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, New Mexico
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and apply critical thinking skills to technical tasks
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment
  • Coursework in materials science, chemical engineering, chemistry, physics, mechanical engineering, or a related field
  • Interest in or familiarity with thin-film deposition techniques such as sputtering, electron beam evaporation, chemical vapor deposition, or atomic layer deposition
  • Interest in experimental laboratory work, including sample preparation, materials processing, and characterization

Security Clearance
