Job description

Position Summary

The Driver Supervisor is responsible for the leadership, coordination, and performance of drivers within their designated site and region. ย This role ensures all implant and instrument deliveries and pickups are executed accurately, efficiently, and on time. The Driver Supervisor serves as the primary point of accountability for delivery operations, driver schedules, route planning, stock-on-loan management, and driver performance.

This position works closely with the Builder Supervisor and Sourcing Supervisor to guarantee that equipment and implants required for surgeries are properly prepared, dispatched, and returned within the appropriate windows. This is a hands-on leadership role that may occasionally require performing deliveries directly to support business continuity.

Key Responsibilities

Driver Leadership & Management

  • Supervise, coach, and develop all drivers within the designated site.
  • Lead the full hiring process: sourcing, interviewing, onboarding, and training of new drivers.
  • Conduct ongoing performance management, ride-alongs, coaching sessions, and safety reviews.
  • Approve and manage all driver PTO requests and maintain adequate coverage for all shifts.

Operational Execution & Delivery Performance

  • Ensure all deliveries and pickups are completed on time, accurately, and compliant with hospital requirements.
  • Monitor day-to-day driver activity, providing real-time support and problem-solving as needed.
  • Step in to perform deliveries or pickups when necessary to ensure uninterrupted service.
  • Work closely with the Builder Supervisor and Sourcing Supervisor to align outbound cases and inbound returns with operational workflows.

Scheduling, Routing & Resource Allocation

  • Build and manage weekly driver schedules, shifts, and route assignments based on case volume and hospital demand.
  • Optimize driver deployment to reduce redundancy, increase efficiency, and meet SLA expectations.
  • Assist in oversight of delivery vehicles, mileage logs, fuel usage, and compliance with company policies.

Stock-on-Loan Management

  • Own the siteโ€™s stock on loan metric, ensuring timely pickup and return of all items in the field.
  • Develop proactive systems to minimize overages and prevent assets from remaining out beyond approved time windows.
  • Partner with the Asset or Sourcing teams to reconcile discrepancies and maintain asset integrity.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner daily with Builder and Sourcing Supervisors to ensure surgical cases are communicated, prepped, and executed with precision.
  • Serve as the operational liaison between delivery functions and warehouse/asset management workflows.

Compliance, Safety & Standards

  • Ensure driver adherence to all safety protocols, company policies, and DOT/local regulations.
  • Enforce compliance of all training and credentialing requirements.
  • Monitor and enforce quality standards related to handling sterile implants, instruments, and temperature-sensitive items.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in logistics, courier operations, medical device delivery, or related field (preferred).
  • Prior experience supervising teams or leading frontline employees strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of routing, delivery operations, and time-sensitive service environments.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Comfort working in a high-volume, high-urgency environment.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings/ weekends to meet case volume demand.
  • Ability to lift/move inventory as needed and perform occasional delivery duties.

Success Measures

  • Top Quartile rank of Stock on Loan metric
  • On-time delivery and pickup accuracy
  • Effective driver scheduling and route efficiency
  • High driver engagement, low turnover, and strong training completion rates
  • Strong communication and alignment with Builder and Sourcing leadership
