Medical Assistant / Certified Medical Assistant

Rockbridge Area Health Center (RAHC) is a community-based healthcare facility committed to providing comprehensive, high-quality, and affordable healthcare services to individuals and families in the Rockbridge area. As a Federally Qualified Health Center, we prioritize serving patients regardless of their ability to pay. We are currently seeking a dedicated Medical Assistant to join our team and contribute to our mission of promoting wellness and improving health outcomes in our community.

As a Medical Assistant you will play a crucial role in supporting our healthcare providers and delivering exceptional patient care. Working under the direction of licensed medical staff, the Medical Assistant performs various clinical and administrative duties to ensure efficient clinic operations and positive patient experiences.


Your day will consist of providing quality, comprehensive care by returning patient calls and completing provider orders such as scheduling referral and/or specialist appointments, authorizing and scheduling diagnostic testing, performing phlebotomy and/or finger sticks, completing laboratory forms and performing other point-of-care tests such as a urinalysis, strep test, EKG, vision screening, pulse oximetry, etc. As part of the patient care team, the Medical Assistant collaborates with the Quality Improvement team to track the implementation of best practices and achievement of quality measures.


Qualifications for a Medical Assistant

  • High school diploma or equivalent required;
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or Certification or as a Medical Assistant (CMA) required.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider certification with hands on practicum is required at the time of hire.
  • Phlebotomy experience/training is preferred.
  • 1-2 years of experience in a clinical setting is required.
  • Valid driver's license is preferred.
